Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

Just watched the show.

Although Sundance is on my team, thought his performance was a bit blah again. Continue to not be a fan of Christian. Josh underwhelmed. Billy succeeded in projecting more emotion. Ali is a great singer and Dolly a great songwriter and it was a good idea to do something upbeat, but that is probably my least favorite of Dolly’s songs. Courtney is always great, love that song. (Agree that the first phrase was a bit shaky.) We is also always great, and I continue to love that they have achieved a look for her that works so well.

Really liked Austin (didn’t know he had it in him  ), Aaron (best performance so far!), Darby (great song choice great performance).

Brendan. What can I say. When Adam picked him over Nolan I thought he was nuts. But after Brendan’s incredible performance of Whipping Post last week and his Boss-worthy performance of The River this week, I have to admit that Adam was totally right. (Although I wish that Nolan was in the competition instead of Josh, for example.)

I am worried about Ali. :frowning:

Consolation, Agree! I wish Nolan was in instead of Josh G. (Team Adam). I also wish Josh H. was in instead of Christian (Team Alicia). Josh H. would be charting better on iTunes, IMO.

I thought Aaron was awesome last night - as was Brendan. We’ is always good.

I am not interested in girls who “sing loud.” Simply not a fan. I prefer subtle, layered, and above all … dead on key. If they can go high or sing out, that is fine - as long as they can rein it in, as well. I am a Voice purist, in the sense that I don’t care what they look like, how they dress, or whether or not they move around the stage. In fact, I like to work in the kitchen while listening to the TV that is in another room. It’s All About That Voice for me.

If Ali were going to sing a Dolly song, it would be more revelatory to me if she sang Coat of Many Colors and really put it across in the tender way Dolly does.

I really enjoyed the guest performance by Jordan Smith tonight. I don’t think any of this year’s contestants come close to his quality. Billy might be close, but there’s something missing from his performances. Maybe song choice?

I can’t stand Darby. She shreaks. And that glitter eyeshadow stuff. Didn’t work on the gymnasts, doesn’t work on her.

Caught the autocorrect this time! It originally autocorrected to say she streaks. Now if she did that, maybe she’d earn the votes

Loved Jordan’s Oh Holy Night!

Darby was so off-key. I have never noticed it before. Is that what everyone has been noticing? I like how she changes ups songs, but she got off tonight and never got back on. The whole song was dreadful.

Funny, when I first read it, I thought it did say streaks.

Can’t believe Aaron was at the bottom again. His song last night was SO good. His song tonight was also awesome. Glad he’s sticking around, even if he won’t win - it’s more good music for my ears.

It did, @skieurope (even though I specifically corrected it-- it autocorrected again when I posted it). But I caught it within the edit window!! Whew!

No, I literally read it 4 minutes ago, so it was not autocorrect, it was my mind. @jym626

LOL! ^#(^

I gather Darby was eliminated? Too bad.

I think that a major factor now is whether the song choice is one that the typical iTunes user is likely to download. I don’t know who that is, but it doesn’t include me!

I think the listeners got it right. Did not like her. at. all.

Yeah, I was glad that Aaron did Hurt. One of my favorite Johnny Cash songs ( even though Trent from Nine Inch Nails wrote it). It is an intense song though and would not appeal to everyone. If anyone gets to Nashville, the Johnny Cash Museum is great. The video of Johnny Cash and “Hurt” is one of the last images. Very intense .

I don’t think one note that Darby sang tonight was on pitch. It was absolutely dreadful. Jordan Smith might be my favorite of all the Voice contestants ever. He never seems to hit a bad note!

Personally, I like a man who sounds like a man. Juan Diego Flores has a beautiful high voice, but he doesn’t sound like a castrati. Billy, as wonderful as his vocal ability is, is so far a bit too much of a Peter Pan for me to fully get behind. Jordan similarly has a lovely high voice, but I find his musical taste underwhelming to say the least. Christian soft rock does nothing for me.

It would be interesting to hear someone like Jordan attempt some Mozart, or maybe one of the classic trouser roles.

I agree @jym626 . I’m not sorry to see Darby go. She’s very difficult to watch , as well as listen to. There were times she sounded like the whale in Finding Dori . I just don’t get her popularity recently . She was much better at the beginning IMO.
