Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

Liked We’s solo performance much better than the duet. I guess it is not that they all wrote their own songs (Billy definitely didn’t) but that they are singing original songs for them? Josh, Billy, We, Sundance. I haven’t been watching religiously so I could be very offbase as I am basing it more on more recent stuff.

I thought Sundance sang an original song, and We sang a song written for her. I preferred Sundances song, as showed more range. Billy did a good job of a classic.

What they are doing to Smooth … well, it’s a crying shame. UGH.

I thought so too @bookworm , that maybe Josh and Sundance sang songs they actually wrote but We had an original song written for her by someone else. But, I don’t have the energy to go back and look to clarify this exactly!

Sometimes, I think the duets don’t always help the finalists! Blake and Sundance are up now . My husband said he thought their song was from the movie The Commitments? Not sure that is where the song was from but we simultaneously looked at each other and said this version didn’t compare! He’s not even into The Voice but he heard the song in the background and perked up long enough to comment.

Oh, lord, yes. I love that song. This performance made the song unrecognizable.

Just catching up … did not like the Alicia/WE duet, although WE hit more correct notes than Alicia.

Billy gave me goosebumps with several beautiful notes that he hit. I felt his emotion and was happy of his version of “My Way.”

I am hoping Sundance is great. Josh to me is any above average country singer on these show. I will comment more later.

I am back … Sundance was great! I loved his song.

I think Sundance just clinched it with his dad’s song.

It always starts out with the voice only but at the end of the day, some people are just more marketable than others. Some have more of an “it” factor. I’m always amazed at how much talent is out there and often there is a fine line between who really makes it big and who doesn’t. There are very talented singers out there. I love to see how much talent there is in musical theater, even in local or touring productions.

The rare people who are both great songwriters and musically talented are very impressive to me- Dylan, Springsteen, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, etc. I am dating myself. There are certainly those kind of folks out there currently.

I haven’t been bowled over by anything so far tonight. Still find We to be more interesting than the others. The others just aren’t singing things I would ever choose to listen to again.

I did really like We just now!

Awesome!

I’m curious about that song choice, however. Is she just positioning herself for a Broadway career?

Ya, but even if she doesn’t win Voice, she will have a place in Broadway, like Jennifer Hudson. She truly has a terrific voice.

Would u vote her before Sundance? Tough call

You don’t say, sorry, I was typing about Broadway as u posted. Didn’t mean to be redundant.

Funny Girl is one of my all time favorites and I love every song. Enjoyed that. I would have preferred she sing something more youthful and edgy but it was a showcase song.

Sundance is creeping into my favorite zone. I love this style that he does … 50’s doo-op? His voice hits it just right.

The final four are all talented and pretty different. It does seem like the coaches are trying to help them showcase their talents at the end, in line with where they are most likely to find success. Whether that is Broadway, country, pop, etc. I do think the coaches just want to see them succeed.

I agree with other posters that We outsang Alicia on their duet. I thought her original song was too low. It kind of stayed in one lane for me. Loved “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”

In Billy and Adam’s duet, Billy looked like he was having fun and Adam looked like he was having a root canal. I thought they sounded good together, though. Loved “My Way.” Nowadays it makes me think of the Derek Jeter commercial which makes me tear up every time. (I love baseball.)

I’m not even sure why Josh made the finale. I would much rather have had Ali.

I loved all of Sundance’s performances. I really think he might win it all. My second choice would be We.

I never watch The Voice until the end – or at least the last few episodes so I go only on what I see at the end.

Is Josh the one who butchered Danny’s Song a week or two ago? He is my least favorite. I didn’t like the duet at all.

We, as stated above … loved the Streisand song. Great pipes. But I see her as a Jennifer Hudson wannabe, not a commercial artist.

Billy … I liked his rendition of My Way. But I’m a country fan and remember him from back in the day. He’s had one hit so it feels kind of unfair for him to compete.

Sundance … I loved his dad’s song. A fun duet. I guess he’s the one who’d get my vote if I bothered to do so.
