Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

I bet We’s speaking voice could be properly trained. Of the top 4, she’s the only one I’d voluntarily listen to (well, you’d actually have to pay me to get me to listen to any of the men). We really excited me at her audition, and even though she’s had a mixed bag of performances, her tone, range and ability to sell a song are insane for a 17-year-old. I sure hope she doesn’t fade into obscurity like so many other Voice alums.

I don’t understand why she hasn’t improved her speaking voice yet. I realize it ain’t that easy, however, with all that vocal and opera training under her belt…she seems to have phenomenal control of her singing voice. People get speech therapy all the time. This weak, childlike speaking voice has to have been a problem in her life. Seems like that would have been the first thing to take care of, not the last. If she can’t deal with that, I wonder if she’d have a career of any sort on Broadway.

I was contemplating the problem with We’s speaking voice also. She would definitely have to fix it to have a Broadway career, except perhaps in roles written specifically for her.

I would buy an album done by Sundance. He is somewhat in the genre of the Marshall Tucker Band, somewhat soul, both things I like a lot. I thought his original song was really strong.

How ironic that Josh’s original song had Nolan as a co-author. Nolan must be gnashing his teeth. At least Josh gave him credit.

I think it’s going to come to Billy and Sundance. Josh 4th, We 3rd. Good grief that duet with Alicia was so bad it made me wonder how on earth Alicia ever made it in the first place. And I absolutely love some of Alicia’s songs!

It depends on who is voting. If it’s mostly the young girls, Billy gets it. If it’s country music lovers, Sundance gets it. I though Billy’s duet with Adam was great and he had way more stage presence than Adam.

We’ll never hear from any of them again.

toledo, Thanks. When We’ was just outside of a top-10 iTunes ranking last night, I was worried that she would have no chance in the voting. Now that everyone got the multiplier, thankfully she is not at a disadvantage.

@eyemamom , Alicia is a great song writer and musician, but Ave Maria requires a very different type of vocal ability and training. I was actually surprised that We didn’t sing it better, she also had some rough patches, but of course we have to remember that she is still a kid. Sometimes that is hard to remember.

I really disagree about never hearing from any of them again. I think some of this bunch will have real careers. People tend to forget that it took Kelly Clarkson, for example, a few years to actually be successful.

I really think that Sundance will be successful, and soon.

ive been listening to finale part 1 tonight - not watching.
i like sundance’s voice. i feel its the most consistent - smooth and growly at the same time.
wasnt a fan until i just Listened & didnt watch. funny how that makes a difference.

go sundance!

Any predictions for tonight?

NBC’s video feed is currently messed up. Watching lots of pics of the peacock.

I think they’re all fine in their own ways. I know most are not a fan of Josh but I wonder if he might have the most commercial viability of any of them. His song, which he co wrote apparently, reminded me of "Dirt " by Florida Georgia Line. Both Blake and Adam said it sounded like it could be played on the radio and could be successful. I’m not a big country fan though but can appreciate a good country song now and again. We are watching Sundance now again and I think he’s okay. Some people with talent just never make it big and knock around for years playing good music . I am originally from Pittsburgh and always liked Billy Price. Great local following and put out some good records but never made it truly big. Still appreciate him though.

Look how well Chris Stapleton is doing in country music right now. I think Sundance could have a place in country music.

Billy’s single is easy listening. I don’t think he will win but I like the original song. I like We but did not like her original song. I am thinking Sundance will probably win. I am not a country fan but he has crossover potential.

Well, #4 is right…

I don’t think #3 is…but I expected it.

Down to the last 2 whom most of us expected.

Ya, and S will win. Still like 3

Called that one.

Not so funny, really–he’s an awfully unattractive guy, and it’s hard not to be distracted by that when watching. (I sure hope he loses some weight so he can stick around for those little kids.) I for one will be neither listening to him or nor looking at him ever again.

I didn’t watch the show live, but saw some of the performances later. I thought We’s duet with John Legend was lovely, but then the sexy Mr. Legend can elevate almost anything…

Congrats to Jshain and those that called the order of the top 4. Sundance was the clear winner. Hopefully WE gets help with her speaking voice for Broadway and Billy gets a few more breaks. Josh may make it if he continues to write, as there is money in that regardless if you are the performer or not.

Last season’s winner was also big. Glad the voters don’t engage in fat shaming.

I don’t think it was very surprising that Sundance won. I hope that it provides him and his family with some success. Does anyone else remember when he was on American Idol?

All this talk about We going to Broadway is really a little silly. Getting booked for a Broadway show is incredibly difficult and the very few individuals who book more than one show, and have some semblance of a ‘career on Broadway’, are few and far between. Jennifer Hudson has been in one Broadway show. One. And that was 11 years after she was on American Idol. She is a far more likely candidate for Broadway than We, both due to the type of voice she has and her acting experience. Also, there are very few roles for 17 year olds in professional theatre anywhere, let alone on Broadway.

If We does have an interest in theatre, she would do well to go to college and study it, get the training necessary and see where it takes her.

^^^^
thanks for that memory jolt about sundance. his name was so familiar but i didnt remember him. How did he do on AI?

serveral years ago there was an A Capella competition called the sing-off; Pentatonix came from that show. I would love to see another season but doesnt look like it’ll happen.
