Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

Jshain, re: the interaction between the judges - its only the first show! ;)

So far, I’ve agreed with their picks. The yodeler was a fun surprise. I did feel bad for the girl who sang the Bob Marley song. She really nailed it the second time.

The shock of the evening for me was when lil D, a 5 th grader, expressed concern that Christina’s b**bs were going to pop out of her low cut dress. I thought this was a family show!

^^lol, My DH said “Do you think she had another “job” done on them? They look even bigger than last season.”

We enjoy the bantering amongst the judges too.
Looking forward to the rest of this week’s shows. The 18 yr. old young man who sang last and was so overcome w/ emotion almost made me cry. What a talent.

Agree that the first show was great and, like lilmom, sorry for the girl who sang the Bob Marley song. She was really good a cappella and it’s a shame they didn’t let her do it like that the first time. I thought she was better than Daniel, the repeater from the previous season.

Agree that the judges have - so far? (dare we hope it will be permanent this season) - are bantering back and forth but avoiding the scripted fakey hostile interactions of last season.

Is it me or are there more “overcoming adversity” stories?
Unfortunately, I didn’t have any favorites tonight.

Does seem to me there are more hard luck stories (on some of ther other similar shows, too)… and I must be a Scrooge but I get sort of numb to some of them.

Anyway, I’m only part way through the show, but I surely do like Aquile (sp?).

Brian Keith was the only standout voice for me–and I think when he drops a few pounds and gets styled a bit, he’ll be a real heartthrob. The last guy had a powerful instrument, but I think he needs some vocal training to control it properly–he wobbled off key several times.

I hate to see 15 and 16 year olds on these shows. Their voices are rarely adequately developed or trained, and the public failure is much too much for a kid that age. Who’d want to go to school the morning after no one turns a chair around for you? I don’t get the parents who facilitate their kids’ participation–I guess they’re just bedazzled by the possibility of a big payday.

I’m definitely getting “hard luck story fatigue” and it is only the first week!

The yodeler was definitely FUN! I, too, was sorry that the Bob Marley gal didn’t choose a song that better showcased her talent. The mariachi guy was a blast. What surprised me is that you could see Cee Lo singing along…in Spanish! I miss his cat…so far the cockatiel isn’t showing me the love.

Oh well, lmnop, I’m getting CeeLo pet fatigue almost as much as hardluck story fatigue :). But still enjoying the show and the talent this year. I liked the “mariachi guy” also. Can’t pick a favorite yet… I like too many of them.

There’s still lots of contestants to come. Lol about the pet fatigue…

I still wonder why anyone without a big diva voice would pick Christina as a coach. Did they not watch last year’s shows? She will throw you under a bus!

^^^I agree, being on Christina’s team is risky. And seriously …. another season of seeing her exposed boobs. :p

So far my favorites on Team Adam are Bryan Keith and Nicole Nelson. On Team Ceelo I like Trevin Hunt. Aquille (sp) and Nelly Echo on Team Christina and Juillo Castillo on Team Blake. The one singer I think should not have been selected is DoMo on Team Ceelo.

I also thought the young Jamaican woman who sang the Bob Marley song a cappella was very good.

DoMo was a NoGo in my book too. The woman who sang “Hallelujah” so beautifully right after DoMo blew her away. Bet CeeLo will be sorry he wasted a spot on his team on DoMo.

nbcnews.com had a story up yesterday saying Blake is likely to leave the show, as are the other judges. Evidently, now that they are having both a fall and spring season, it leaves basically little time for the judges to pursue their music & touring.

Fall and spring shows? Why??!!!

^^^^And why increase the number of contestants again this season. I thought having 12/team last season was pushing the envelope, and this season 16/team??

If the producers are getting greedy, they will crash the show. Once a year is enough- twice is too much of a good thing. And as silly as the judges can get, they have good chemistry and can be entertaining. Losing Blake and Adam would really change the dynamic, and I think they’d lose a lot of viewers.
They have already taken a lot of the suspense out of the show by showing the results in the lead up to the contestants before commercials, etc. Most of the time, this season, we already know they will be chosen before they sing.
I haven’t picked favorites yet, either. It’s too soon for me, and I have a hard time keeping them straight. It does seem like they have a lot of talent this year.

I only was able to watch the scene when Nicole Nelson sang. She sang “Hallelujah” well and her style appealed to me. She was faced with the dilemma of having to pick among the four judges. Of course, she’s going to pick Adam Levine.

A number of these reality shows have a fine print disclaimer running with the end credits that says, in effect, “the producers work together with the judges to make selections.” Made me wonder if DoMo was a producer pick… it wouldn’t seem to be possible with the “blind” audition format. But, hey, they can find a way to get CeeLo to turn his chair for that pile of nonsense.

What other reason could she be there than for the DRAMA. Don’t answer that.

For me the show tonight had just one standout in Avery Wilson, the last singer to perform in an otherwise uneventful evening. My money is on him to go really far with Team CeeLo. My other 2 faves were from week 1: Gracia Harrison and Bryan Keith, but I think that Avery Wilson, the 16 year old kid with no vocal training but with an electrifying voice and stage presence, has the biggest upside of anyone.

I’ll be sorry to see changes with the judges for the upcoming season. I agree with moonchild, their chemistry is better than ever this season.

Yes!! Loved Avery!! I also felt badly for the girl that all the judges were kicking themselves for not selecting.
