Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

As 2VU0609 mentioned in an earlier post, there will be a special airing on Thursday 3/2. I don’t believe it is a rerun because Casi Joy will be performing her Blind Audition. In the meantime, catch her sneak peak performance on NBC.com/the-voice. Will definitely be adding her to my team!

Okay, just listened on nbc.com. I was surprised nobody turned for Nick Townsend (guy Alicia said was too B’way for her.) I liked Autumn (Donna Summer song), Lily (last singer); Alyia. I didn’t much care for any of the guy singers.

@jonri I was surprised too. I thought that he was really good.

@lilmom Julian Martinez is on The Voice right now.

I liked Julien. And I think Cassi Joy will go far.

Watched the auditions on NBC.com: Julien doesn’t look a bit like he sounds, does he? He sounds great but crazy how the scream at the end is what got a chair to turn. If Quizz makes it to the live shows, the viewers are going to eat that 13-year-Old kid up! Couldn’t stop smiling, even after he stopped singing. Casi Joy seems like the front runner at this stage to me. Her vocal ability and professionalism reminded me of Alisan Porter. I cannot recall any previous season that had as many solid female country singers. Casi, Ashley, (both on tonight), Lauren, Brennley (only 13)…

How many weeks of blind auditions are there? You’d think after watching all these seasons that I would know, but I don’t remember!

I haven’t watched yet, but I hope they don’t end up with the same problem that American Idol did, where they have too many young kids. Some do phenomenally well, but many end up crashing and not being as talented as they were for their one audition song. And by the end, most everybody stinks, because they went with nice looking youngsters over serious talent.

musicmom, I believe there will be a total of 3 weeks of blind auditions, with a recap, “best of the Blinds” recap show in week 4 or possibly on a 3rd night in week 3. If anyone could confirm that would be great.

I am not a huge fan of lowering the minimum age requirement to 13. It seems to be taking a page out of America’s Got Talent and/or XFactor’s playbook.

We were at a local club for the “viewing party”. Julien is really talented. We call him an “old soul” because he’s so good singing the oldies but goodies. Now I’m going to watch the auditions online because it was so loud at the club!

@jshain - i was trying to figure out reasons for changing the age to 13 as i’m not a fan as well. What do you think? perhaps because that young girl won AGT last year? To attract younger kids to the show? to find the next young superstar for that age demographic? I’m assuming the age change has producers thinking it will make more money for the show - somehow- but i cant quite figure it out!

Welcome bgbgus! You covered most of the reasons on lowering the age requirement, not the least of which is a ratings boost.

I thought the 13 yr old was great, but has his voice changed yet? What will happen if it does? I think 13 is too young.

I was wondering about the 13 year old’s voice change too. I figured they want to cater to the preteen/early teen viewers.

There were 3 nights of Blinds this week and yet only one performance currently in the iTunes Top-200:

I am somewhat surprised at this poor showing. Only Casi Joy currently. I thought several of the performances would either break into the top-200 or would have remained in the top-200 for a few more days (like Lauren Duski).

I hope we get to hear Casi Joy sing some of the other genres she said she likes, and she isn’t shut up in a country box by Blake. I’d really like to find out what else she can do.

I hate having young kids on these shows. I think their parents are doing them a terrible disservice. That kid who apparently already appears all over as a Michael Jackson clone just makes me sad. And it’s plain unfair to ask seasoned, trained, and fully developed artists to compete against kids who’ll get votes because they’re cute and “so young!”.

On the other hand, Bruno Mars started incredibly young–maybe as an Elvis impersonator?–and he is just great. But he’s a great exception.

Curious if any of you thought a finalist could be on tonight’s Blinds? Just heard all of the sample “re-mastered” auditions from tonight on iTunes who got a chair to turn. No one really stood out to me but have not seen the show on Hulu yet. Almost all from tonight are pop singers.

There have been some interesting singers tongiht. Not sure there was a “wow” singer, but some very likable ones. The curly haired blonde girl was cute.

I did not think anyone of tonight’s episode would make it to the finals…some enjoyable performances, but no wow factor.
