Watched performances (only) on NBC.com. I’m not in agreement with some of you. I absolutely loved Lauren, as did most of you, but also really loved Hunter’s performance tonight. He is such an interesting, creative, and distinctive artist, I thought Brennley was really good although I liked her a little more last week. I also really liked Chris Blue. Vanessa is very talented but there continues to be an emotional disconnection. Since I didn’t see the rehearsals I am curious as to the direction Adam is taking Jesse. He does a good job with the songs he’s “given” (?) but they are the wrong songs and a guitar-less Jesse is hurting him. He has lost his momentum. Mark is likely in trouble again and may be going home Tuesday.
I’m surprised Mark doesn’t have more of a following. He is young and handsome, and I think he has a good voice and charisma. Apparently the voters must be old folks like me who do not love his contemporary song choices.
I don’t get the direction Jesse is going. He can out-sing all of them, yet he has fallen kind of flat the last few weeks. Where is his guitar?
Chris said he had never sung “When a Man Loves a Woman” before. Maybe whoever is choosing the songs is pushing him in the “old” sound direction.
I think TSoul and Mark will be the bottom two. Mark may pull out another Twitter save.
I did the fast forward thing with the DVR and didn’t even listen to full performances for those whose performances seemed weak. I thought TSoul was the worst and Lauren and Chris were the best. I have loved Lauren from the start and always listen to her complete performance. She looked and sounded stunning. In fact, I would be happy enough to let them put Lauren and Chris into a head to head final next week and be done with the season. Obviously, that’s not going to happen, but a girl can wish…
I personally don’t see Chris on Broadway. Lilli may be best suited there. She is a lovely girl, looked great in that dress, but her performance missed the mark for me. The biggest head scratcher to me was Aliyah. That song choice was so age inappropriate and her performance made me uncomfortable. Vanessa’s lackluster iTunes ranking is somewhat of a mystery. I don’t like her Janelle Mona look. Stephanie got one of my favorite songs of all time but how do you compete with The Who? Thought TSoul should have performed his song WITHOUT laying down, or sitting, since he struggled a little getting back up! Mark needs to be given less lyrically and rhythmically challenging songs. Clearly over-his-head, imo.
Here are the current iTunes rankings, with less than an hour to go before the cut-off to earn the multiplayer:
Lauren, Somewhere In My Broken Heart, #3
Hunter, All I Want, #10
Brennley, River, #13
Chris, When a Man Loves a Woman, #16
Jesse, Human, #17
Lilli, Town Without Pity, #36
Stephanie, Behind Blue Eyes, #55
TSoul, lay Me Down, #59
Vanessa, Diamonds, #65
Aliyah, Take It Back, #68
Mark, How To Love, #70
Yes, someone sang it. Do you want me to tell you? I know we shouldn’t be reading this site if we don’t want to see spoilers, but I don’t want to ruin it for you if you will be watching the whole thing later.
The tail comment from toledo was referring to Stephanie’s long “accessory” item that she was wearing/displaying.
Edit: I have 1,144,500 points and am hoping my 4 remaining hold up. I have Brennley, Jesse, and Hunter versus musicmerit’s Mark and Lilli. We both have Chris.
Thank you, jshain. I thought everyone noticed it. While 7 Years isn’t a great song, it seemed less depressing than Issues, but this could be because we have been constantly reminded of Stephanie’s “issues”. Mark will probably go home next week.
I guess I was too focused on listening to the lyrics of that song–I had never heard it before–to notice what she was wearing.
Did anyone notice Adam mentioning more than once in the last few weeks that Mark has chosen all of his own songs. It’s like Adam doesn’t want to be blamed for the terrible song selections. Maybe Adam needs to choose something for him. But then again, Adam has pulled Jesse so far out of his comfort zone that it could be his downfall soon. I think that Adam will lose his whole team before the finale. Mark will be gone soon, Lilli is not standing out, and Jesse has lost his guitar.
I read somewhere that American Idol is coming back on ABC in 2018. If this is true, I wonder if it will be in the same time slot as The Voice. Probably not since DWTS is on ABC on Mondays.
