We GOT to have some disagreements. I am playing my X Factor card to shock the consensus. Except for Melanie, they are all pretty good. But I do look forward to Nicholas more than to the others who I find very predictable and only mildly entertaining. I am no musical expert by any stretch of the imagination. I just go by what I’d pay to hear one more time. I just seem to like those older songs done well rather than so-so versions of current hits.

Y’all are surely more objective than I am. ;)

I really love Melanie, but I agree that she should probably go home. I don’t think her style/voice fits well in a reality singing competition. I think she could be very successful, but I don’t feel The Voice is the right avenue for her (at this point at least; of course it helped her receive recognition, but I just don’t think it will benefit her much more).

Enjoyed Nicholass rendition of Some Where Over the Rainbow I am not a big fan of his, probably because I grew up listening to 60s and 70s Motown / R&B . the bar is set very high.

Enjoyed both of Amandas performances. You Make me Feel Like a Natural Women more so than her 2nd song.

Definitive favorite of the night was Trevins I am Telling You Im Not Going! There is a part of me that would like to see a nice young man w/o full body tattoos or singing foul language lyrics or performing sexually subjective on-stage gyrations . actually make it in the entertainment industry.

Melanie was the weakest tonight but I think she has a big tween following.

Agree, toledo. They are all a bit saccharin-sweet in their feedback, and really don’t critique the singing much at all. If I hear one more “I’m a fan” I am gonna stop being a fan of the show. If the strategy of the judges is to get their team player to win, they might consider being a little more direct in their feedback to the other contestants. Might bring something further to the competition aspect of this endeavor.

Melanie was off key several times. I don’t like the word “pitchy”, but I think it fits. And I agree with Christina sa to the type of song she (Melanie) would do best with. The babydoll cutesy thing wasn’t her best presentation, even at her young age.

**** crossposted with lacrossemom. Totally agree (obviously!)

^I kind of chuckled though when Chestina said Melanie, the youngest one in the competition, should sing more “sultry” songs. Even though it was true, Melanie is just 17 years old for gosh sakes.

Hoping that Melanie and Cassadee are the ones exiting tonight. I think Melanie is fully prepared to go and was working hard to keep it together last night. I thought the new hair was interesting, but on the second song she looked like she was on green screen with it. I hated the staging of the second song. Cute idea, but at one point the camera angle had a guy’s arm in front of her face for several seconds. I don’t understand why Christina kept praising the set director or whatever he is.

It seems that when the coaches don’t go verbose they are streching (except for Christina) to find something positive to say.

I wonder how much money The Voice gets from the tie-in with itunes? Are we going to have the Final Four sing 3,4 or 5 songs so there are more to download at itunes to support that artist?

This thread cracks me up. Mostly parents (including me) opining on what is good, great musically now. Sort of like asking your parents (of early boomers) about Dylan, Janis, Plant etc. My “vote” is Terry and Melanie out. I think Christina would have been better off with staying with D’borah.

Nicholas just resonates with me. I’d love to be able to send him a list of songs and hear his rendition of them. I can’t say that for any of the others.

I looked at itunes and am puzzled that the results of the Top 100 are still the tunes from before last night. Has anyone seen any of last nights songs chart?

I just read that there are 2 more weeks of The Voice. Are we going to have the 4 cut to 2 or do you think the show will only be on 1 night the next 2 weeks?

I agree with some that Melanie and Terry are at the bottom. Adam seemed to be pushing Melanie out with comments that she already has a great following. One of them is my fifth grade D.
Amanda is a rocker, in my opinion. She reminds me of a Tina Turner.
I can’t decide if Trevin is a front runner but he reminds me of Luther Vandross, one of my favorites.

The Voice is not oriented towards edgy current performers. Also recall that when we were teens, the idea that anyone who we actually listened to would be involved in something as mainstream as the Grammies was laughable. Everything is much more commercial now. And, thank you very much, I’m not dead yet, and just as entitled to have an interest in music as some 12 year old! :)

I agree that Chestina would have been better off keeping D’borah, who was really interesting. Unfortunately, she prefers belting diva wannabees.

Speaking of Amanda–which i wasn’t, but anyway… – did anyone else think that she looked at Chestina like she was thinking “Beyotch!”?

^^^^YES! I don’t know why but Christina (aka Chestina) does not like Amanda and Amanda knows it. After Amanda decided to go w/ Adam Christina has never given her a positive critique only backhanded compliments. I think that is why Christina is overly gushy about Cassadee now – hoping she will take votes away from Amanda.

OK I found a story and a link to itunes that has the itunes placement within the Top 100. Several interesting facts.

Cassadee has both her songs from last night in the Top 10–currently #3 and #7(hence multiplying the vote by 10 for 2 songs).

Terry had one song hit #1 and it is currently #2.

Nicholas is currently #4 with Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Trevin is currently at #8.

Melanie currently has 1 song at #12 and the other is within the top 25.

Amanda never hit the Top 10, according to the story.

The story indicates that Terry, Cassadee and Nicholas seem to be “safe” using the itune Top 10 trends as a predictor. The feeling was that Amanda may not make it into the Final 4 and that the “horse race” is between Melanie and Trevin for the fourth place. All this based on the itunes numbers from after the show through the end of voting.

He also said it doesn’t matter and it doesn’t. If it did, no one would know who Taylor Swift is. The folks who have made Swift a multi-millionaire are not only accustomed to “off key” but embrace it. Cassadee is the opposite of Melanie - hits the notes but looks like she belongs on a cruise ship or in a hotel lounge. I love a lot of current music, but nothing you would hear on a top 20 radio station.

I happen to really like a current Motown inspired band - I’ll probably just listen to these guys rather than Nicholas.

Melanie’s voice is sort of like Edie Brickell’s but I like Edie’s better. SNL’s J-Pop talk show and Hey Arnold’s Helga probably inspired Melanie to dress herself the way she does. The staging when she sang “The Show” reminded me of The Electric Company. That’s not meant to be a put-down on TEC because I did enjoy watching it as a child. It’s just time for Melanie to go home. Sometimes too much caramel no matter how quirky the packaging can cause one to gag.
