I used to not get what self-indulgent meant when Simon would tell that to singers on American Idol. Then I saw Sisaundra and totally got it. lol Amazing voice yes, but who is her target audience and how does that match with the typical Voice watcher? I can appreciate the vocal acrobatics, I don’t like listening to it.

Well, its certainly not the straightforward style of Frank Sinatra, is it? Times have changed, but you wonder what would happen to a Sinatra, Dean Martin, or Tony Bennett if they were young contestants today.

I like the show a lot, but every single song seems to be some kind of high-intensity presentation.

I get that effortless looking style is really anything but someone just popping up there and singing a little ditty…however, I feel like sometimes there is almost too much preparation. I feel like every song performed is almost too prepared.

I think the young girl named Deja (I think) is the least self-indulgent singer in the competition. She almost seems too laid back, but I like her.

I finally watched the episode, and I think Blake made some bad choices. I thought he should have kept the two guys. (I love Jake Worthington. I think he’s the real deal as a country singer. Which is probably the kiss of death because my picks are doomed to finish in 2-4 place
) As for his three females, Sisaundra has a big bag of tricks but I can’t stand listening to her. (She should have watched Lea Michele sing that song on Glee.) Audra seems to be another perpetual belter. So tiring. I would have kept Madeline and tried to get her to loosen up.

I agree. I think Audra is boring and Sisaundra is a lounge singer. I thought the young blonde had the most potential if Blake could have worked with her on her stage presence and song choice.

Definitely water under the bridge at this point in the show but I was surprised Adam took Kat over Dawn and Hawkes in battle round 2. What happened to Adam declaring during the blind auditions that Dawn and Hawkes had perhaps the best blind round in the show’s history? I thought Audra deserved to be chosen. I think Kat was most similar to Sisaundra as far as not knowing when to let off the gas pedal.

Well, I am officially a fan of Josh from Usher’s team. He is this season’s Will Champlin.

Hopefully Usher won’t treat Josh as poorly as Adam treated Will. I would get a kick out of seeing someone like Josh win, realizing the theory of the show that it’s the voice, not the appearance, that makes a winner. Despite that concept, all the winners to date have been pretty conventionally attractive.

I didn’t agree with Usher’s choice last night. I would have taken the long haired guy over the other two who weren’t Josh.

I think Adam has the strongest team, and it looks like Blake does the least amount of coaching though I realize I only think that based on what they show us in the clips.

I didn’t like the song choice but I really like Bria. I thought letting Stevie Jo go was the right decision.

I was so happy to see Josh get through. IMO, he did the best job. I would have put TJ as the second best.

The third spot was iffy–I definitely felt MJ should go. Then it came down to Bria or Stevie Jo. I think it was close between them. Stevie Jo has been at this a lot longer than Bria. Maybe Usher felt she had more room for improvement.

I think the “blind” part of the show only exists for the original chair turns. After that, everyone can see the performance, including the audience that votes, and appearance and presentation are not possible to ignore (unless you close your eyes).

Unusual appearances can work, but I think it’s risky. The best formula for winning, I think, is to be really good vocally, pick the right songs, and to appear as though you’re really enjoying yourself. It also seems to be useful to not appear to be expending a lot of effort.

I actually would have kept MJ. I think her potential is huge. She just needs some polishing.

I loved Dani Moz’ performance last night.

^Dani Moz is from my town. I don’t watch The Voice but our local paper has been reporting on her every week.

My two favorites so far are Christina from Adam’s team and Kristen from Shakira’s. They are both so comfortable in their own skins, and really are a pleasure to listen to.

It’s unfair to compare the status of songs released on 2 different days, but still…Christina is the only one to crack the top 100 songs on itunes. Here’s the link to how the Voice songs are doing:

<a href=“iTunes The Voice Rankings Chart - Season 22”>http://www.popvortex.com/music/charts/itunes-voice-rankings.php

I believe that Christina came into the show with a youtube following, so it isn’t surprising that she’s #1 in itunes.

Christina was “discovered” when her You Tube performance(s) went viral. So, that probably makes her a front runner at this stage, entering the voting rounds.

I had no idea about Christina’s You Tube presence. I just thought she was very good. I also love the tone quality in Kristin’s voice, but I’m not sure how wide her appeal will be. Or she could be the next KD Lang.
Dani’s personality was also very compelling., and I enjoyed Kat’s performances, but I’m afraid she won’t be as versatile as one needs to be to last. I’m not sold on Josh yet, but he may grow on me.
