Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

I think there is a real uphill battle for “stardom” after you win something like this. I know that other artists and actors have won competitions and succeeded in the longer term, but the majority have not. It’s revealing that so many of the voice contestants are really semi-pros…by that I mean people who’ve sung as back-up singers for large stars. It simply shows how very difficult it is to “succeed” in the entertainment business. My hat is off to those who work in this field. By definition, you are working when other people are “recreating”.

I wasn’t able to watch last night, but I gather that my man won? Amazing! At last!! I looked at the itunes ranking yesterday, and thought Cristina was going to take it. Now I can watch it with pleasant anticipation.

We get Tessane and the Aussies get this:

<a href=“The Voice Australia: Karise Eden (@kariseeden) sings It's A Man's World - YouTube”>The Voice Australia: Karise Eden (@kariseeden) sings It's A Man's World - YouTube;

With singers like Vidgen in Australia and Lewis in the UK, the shows overseas are so much better than ours.

Don’t forget to set your DVRs. New season starts Monday 9/22/14…

Thanks for reminding us!

Well… anyone watching in “current time” on the west coast?

I liked the opening coaches’ performance to start the new season.

Hoping Gwen and Pharrell hit their buttons quicker sometime during the blind audition rounds and don’t wait for more experienced coaches Adam and Blake to turn their chairs first. With a few exceptions, they both played “follow Adam and Blake’s lead”. Yes, they are new to the show, but both should know talent when they hear it. Other than that, Gwen and Pharrell seem to be great additions to the show.

Didn’t think opening singer Luke Wade (Team Pharrell) had a performance worthy of getting all four coaches to turn their chairs. Thought 16-year Bryana had too many pitch problems to get a 3-chair turn. Really liked Taylor John Williams, the folk/pop singer on Team Gwen, and surprised that he didn’t get more than a 2-chair turn. He was one of my faves of the night. Closing singer James David Carter (Team Blake) seems ready to become a country star. Interesting when he said that he opened for Blake Shelton back when Blake had a mullet.

Another blind audition on Tuesday.

So this is the first time I’ve ever watched a full episode of the Voice. The only reason is because a guy we knows daughter is on it. Her name is Jessie Pitts, she is adorable, and I hope she sings like an angel! Her dad is an absolutely one of the nicest guys around. I don’t know what day she’ll sing, but I hope it’s soon.

Nice summary, jshain. I don’t remember their names yet, but I did like the sound of the first and last guys. The shy Aisan woman knocked my socks off … Love her voice. The new coaches are a nice addition, and I agree that the opening number was a treat. Gwen sings with the other judges in a balanced way so they all got to shine perfectly.

I wish Adam would stop acting so desperate to get each good singer … The standing on his chair and begging gets old.

Looking forward to more …

The closing singer was awesome. If he continues at that level, the most valuable thing the show will offer him is exposure. I was thinking that the night had been pretty blah until he came along.

Conflict with Dodgers/Giants game. I’ll watch next week!

The last guy had some “magic” in his voice. We’ll see if it persists. Others were quite good, but I was very impressed with the last one. I thought he was going to be a bust with his comment about making the “last twelve years pay off” or something like that, but it seems as though he’s polished himself up pretty well in the last twelve years, or whatever it has been.

These guys are really semi-pros in some instances. It shows how difficult it is to “make it” in the music business.

I find it engaging to attempt to articulate what it is about some vs others that makes them better. Its not easy to explain, but you can hear it sometimes, and the judges sometimes hear the same thing too.

I think the four judges are great together, great chemistry.

I like the new judges, but I am sensing that they are reluctant to push unless either Adam or Blake pushes. Several people were passed over tonight who were better than some of the ones picked, IMO.

I like the kid Adam just picked up.

Tuesday night really surpassed Monday’s show, imo. I thought Pharrell landed the two best singers of the night in Taylor, the indie rocker, and especially Maiya, the Yale grad who closed the show. Don’t remember coaches fighting quite so hard for one person before with Maiya. Also liked Reagan (Team Blake) and Joe (Team Adam) but it would be easier to name just the 1-2 who weren’t as impressive. Overall, this group tonight was that good…

The young ones always seem to grow the most, so I can see why they get so excited with a talented 15-year-old. Amiya is amazing … Hopefully just the exposure will help her forever more. She is a pro and she is humble so I look forward to her schooling the one-song-wonders.

Yay, Jessie just got selected by Gwen! So happy for her and her family. Cool to see her dad so excited.

I missed Jessie. I do like the last singer that Gwen got.

Jessie is very unique, I think. But I’m biased because of her Dad, he is the most genuinely nice person ever.

I look forward to hearing Jessie.
