I got waitlisted at a few schools–Wash U and Carelton–both have huge WL, that almost no one gets off of. Is WM’s WL similar for out of state students, anyone know?

i was waitlisted too and am wondering the same thing

See the Common Data Set info at:

http://www.wm.edu/ir/part_c.htm

Number of qualified applicants offered a placed on waiting list 1,812
Number accepting a place on the waiting list 859
Number of wait-listed students admitted 113

Why offer so many people waitlist. I don’t understand the point??? does it do something fo their statistics?

There are political reasons for why the waitlist is as long as it is. Alumni children will usually be offered a spot on the waitlist in lieu of rejection as not to compromise their parents contributions, etc.

In a manner of speaking the higher the number of applicants taken off the waitlist actually compromises a school’s stats since it is usually indicative of a poor matriculation rate for a given year.
