Is there a Difference Between Third and Valedictorian?

I’m currently a rising senior and was wondering whether it makes a large difference in terms of top college admissions (HPY,etc…). I’m 3rd out of a class of 600. (Assuming that a valedictorian and I have roughly equal statistics)

No.

@skieurope Thanks!

I’ll second with emphatic “NO.”

At some of the high schools that I know, there are students trying to kill each other to graduate valedictorian. Very sad to witness since most of them end up being rejected by their dream schools. They then get the shock of their lives when someone 6th in standing ends up with the top prize. That 6th ranked student knew that he’s within the top school “range” GPA-wise, so he had been spending more time building quality ECs rather than battling for the top rank in the graduating class. That’s a part of holistic prep.

@TiggerDad Thanks for the reply!

No again

lol pretty sure being top 30 wouldn’t even hurt that much

I agree with that^. Top 5% is very good in a class that size.

Valedictorians are routinely rejected by Ivies.
