I took AP Government and Politics as a freshman (which was just last year, I’m gonna be a sophomore this school year), and I recently got my AP score. My AP score was a 3, and I’ve heard it qualifies as “good”. Is this score still considered “good” to top colleges (Stanford, MIT, Ivy Leagues, etc.), since I took it as a freshman, or not?
It doesn’t matter when you took it. Most colleges look at your entire high school record (there are some exceptions). In general AP scores are not the most important part of your college application. Your GPA and SAT/ACT scores are much more important.
Agreed. You get no break for taking the test as a freshman. On the flip side, if you had scored a 5, you would have received no bonus points for doing this as a freshman. Regardless, AP scores carry little to no weight in the admissions process, IMO.
@skieurope is correct- there is little to no benefit to AP scores in the admissions process. The only way I can think that an AP score would have an effect if, say, you got a 5 on the exam but a B in the class, it could show that the class was difficult, whereas if you got a 2 on the exam but an A in the class, the college might (not always) suspect grade inflation.
Anyways back to your case- since they don’t really play a role in the admissions process, don’t stress out about it. You can simply not report the score.
