A person I know from high school got admitted to UVA yesterday; however, I was VERY shocked because he has numerous cheating infractions and I’m pretty positive he’s been taken to administration so it must be(?) on his record…unless he is lying that he got admitted, is UVA forgiving about these things? They have a very strict honor code actually AT their school, but they must be considerate before? I mean, he seemed to be truly happy he got in so I’m assuming he’s not lying…any thoughts?
I think they’re very understanding about stuff like that. I mean, one can never really know how they think. For all we know the people reading his app were really bored and they wanted lunch and they saw an application that spiced up their day a little bit
First of all, we don’t expect perfection and we know that under the stress and pressure of high school, students sometimes make bad decisions. We look to see if they are honest about their background and whether they have learned from what they experienced.
Second, there are some schools that have forbidden their counselors from sharing this kind of information with us.
No one would overlook cheating incidents in an application because they were bored or hungry. That’s crazy! We aren’t chained to our laptops. If we want lunch, we go get lunch.
