I submitted an essay about how I'm agnostic...was this a bad move? :/

UVA is more conservative than most colleges, but it is still liberal. And no, I do not believe it was a bad idea, unless your essay just sucked.

I saw a UVA roadshow presentation. They said that they hate cookie cutter essays like this:
"I joined the soccer team...I was a leader and worked really hard...my coach is a great role model...I learned leadership, teamwork, and hard work."
"I joined the debate club...I was a leader and worked really hard...my captain is a great role model...I learned leadership, teamwork, and hard work."
"I joined the volunteering club...I was a leader and worked really hard...the club moderator is a great role model...I learned leadership, teamwork, and hard work."
So an essay on your beliefs would be refreshing and interesting for college counselors. Good move on your part. :)

^haha thanks, I hope you're right
I answered the "how did a book inspire you" prompt, citing darwin's origin of species as the first work that made me seriously consider our existence, and how over the years, I have transitioned from a pseudo-christian to an apathetic to an ardent agnostic

I dunno. I was in Peabody Hall the other day and saw a computer with the WSJ on. Luckily I had my inhaler.

No, not really, I hung out with a bunch of commies at Brown :)

Brown is far from typical...
see site:talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-virginia conservative - Google Search re OP

People who work in higher ed, in general, tend to be an open minded bunch. :)

With a class of 3,750, there's room for a little of everything here. We don't have to agree with you to admit you.

Believe it or not, the Darwin essay is not as "out there" as you may think. Plenty of students, devout and otherwise, are challenged by his work.

I agree with bigwill, while UVA is maybe "conservative" compared to other elite schools, it is still liberal.

The major source of conservatism and snobbishness here is from overseas

children of i-bankers and the like who went to rich private schools in Dubai

The OP was asking about the admission office.

The REALLY scary part, did hazel use some kind of engine to generate that, or was he/she logging each one :0

I'm so impressed!

With Hazel, not with myself. :)

Me too. I don't know where Hazel comes up with this stuff, but I really appreciate it. A few more months and we will have to search for ourselves.

I have another year, I'm in the 5 year ed program.

I was also hoping to make it so anyone could run the program to get their stats, but CC searches aren't named in a way I could do that based on inputting a username unfortunately as far as I can tell quickly...
