Is UVA really that good of a school?

<p>Is UVA really that good? It seems like I’m underestamating it. Is is really that highly ranked as it seems. It seems like another state school. Also is this like the best state school expect for Univeristy of California and UPenn. Thanks.</p>

<p>Despite the name, the University of Pennsylvania is not a state school. It is private and a member of the Ivy League.</p>

<p>Yes, UVa is all that: old-line traditon; strong grad schools, classic Georgian-style campus (the one that set the tone for all Georgian campuses w/ a central mall and domed centerpiece Rotunda), AND it’s small for a major flagship in a large state – literally smaller than 2 of the real (private) Ivys: Penn and Cornell. The place definitely has a private scale and feel about it.</p>

<p>And as an added bonus, UVa is cheap esp compared, out of state, to places like Michigan and Berkeley… Trust your instincts, Charlottesville’s a total GEM of a school.</p>

<p>UVa is ranked 2nd in the Public university rankings, and 23rd nationally. We are ranked above Michigan, UCLA - just to name a few - fyi.</p>
