College major obviously does matter more than which school (assuming decent school for the major) if one is aiming for jobs and careers where specific skills and knowledge associated with a college major are expected.

But the reverse may be more true for jobs where specific skills and knowledge are not so important (or where they are associated with a very common major), but there is an elitist attitude surrounding the job, and school prestige is used as a differentiator to find the “elite” among the applicants and aspirants to the job.
