ISO Laundry duffles and room deodorizer

Hi all

I’m putting together a grad gift bag for a graduating HS guy. I’d like opinions on two items:

(1) Laundry bags. I am hearing that guys don’t like the mesh type pop-up hampers - they take up too much space in a dorm room and they are flimsy and won’t last the year if at all. They prefer a canvas bag with a strap. I’d appreciate your thoughts and links. I think Walmart offers a monogramed bag? Links?

(2) Room deodorizer - Febreeze? Gels? Plug-ins?

Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing about hampers. I’m guessing a hard plastic laundry basket is a really bad idea. I’m anxious to hear the answers you get.

The guys in my dorm all used a plastic laundry basket type and seemed fine with it.

Febreze is a good room deodorizer because it can be used for more than just deodorizing. I.e., if he hasn’t done his laundry in awhile and has to wear something for the second time, he can Febreze it and it will smell fine until he can get to the laundry room. Gross, but true.

Something like this might be useful.

I see guys with mesh pop-up bags all the time, but I don’t have one, so I can’t personally say how durable they are. I would think that a canvas bag would get smelly if you just left dirty laundry in it, though.

I have a rather tall plastic basket. It works fine for me. I keep it in my closet, so it’s not in the way.

For the plug-ins, you might want to wait to see what way the outlets are oriented in his room. I wanted to get a plug-in thing for my room, but then I realized the outlets are oriented the wrong way, so you would have to plug it in sideways, which apparently you’re not supposed to do because the liquid can seep out or something.

I have a can of febreeze that I like. I also have one of those reed diffuser things, which worked really well for a while (for some reason, I think the refills are less fragrant than the original liquid it came with, but even that lasted a while, so it’s a good investment). I don’t know if this would be too girly for a guy’s room, though.

Thanks, guys.

Since I don’t know the dorm configuration I’m tempted to not buy a hard plastic basket. It might not fit. Proudwismom, thats kind of what I’m looking for, but it is pricey.

I found this seller on Ebay, he/she provides canvas and mesh bags, with straps, reasonably priced, so if it doesn’t work, no big outlay is lost. Is 30x40 too big?
