It’s so quiet here now!

If they would just fix the font at this point, I think a lot of us would quit complaining to them and we’d see an increase. The date is great, but I think the font is the main issue, IMO.

Maybe when the website pageviews decline even further, something will be done.

I did go to reddit when this site format changed and I can tell you straight up that parents are not the only ones who find this site hard to navigate. The students do too. We’ve always had a ton of students who posted on CC looking for parent advice and that sector has complained heavily also about the format being difficult to read and navigate. The “clean simple lines” are just a no go on too many levels. Even young eyes can’t handle this mess.

I do see the post time is finally back at the top. I find it frustrating that “progress” is just retroactive stuff.

I really don’t have an issue with the font, in fact many popular sites like “Reddit” have a similar font with many, many users. With all do respect, maybe its an older generation (with older eyes) that has a problem with it but not the younger demographics they are looking for. And I say this as a 51 yo…

The CC experience isn’t what it used to be (and I honestly don’t think it is bad and adjusted just fine as someone who accesses it on a computer) but I still think it is WAY, way better than Reddit.

I’m in a Facebook group and typed up an answer to someone’s question. I think the poster didn’t like the responses she got and deleted it. I can’t find it anymore.

At least here, if you don’t like the answer to your question you can’t delete it. You can ignore it, but stuff doesn’t just go poof!

The one thing I hate about Reddit is that I give students my experience on things and if they don’t like my answer, a bunch of negatives go to the post, which is ridiculous.

@ProfessorPlum168 —true reddit can downvote you which can squelch some dialogue but honestly over my years on CC I’ve seen a ton of comments wishing for a way to downvote here too.

I’ve grown fond of reddit because I can find groups tailored to what I like to read about. They allow pictures—which we certainly could have used here countless times.

It’s not all kids. Just depends on what you choose.

Moderation of the sub Reddits are from CC style to none.

I like that posts can be deleted if you want. That to me is a plus.

I am on cc because it’s a politics-free zone. A different font or poorly-executed site design isn’t going to change that for me. But hey, at least the responses aren’t double-spaced any more!

Right now the Berkeley subreddit is unreadable because a ton of people are making a bunch of parody posts (there’s a more vulgar name for it). I wish someone would just go delete all of it. This is one advantage that CC will have.

The Applying to College subreddit just instituted a new rule where such posts are limited to Wednesdays. I’m like “How about just limiting them to never?!?!” But their site, their rules.

The law school/bar exam or whatever subreddit had the Wednesday or whatever day for such posts, too, back in the old days. It must be a Reddit thing. It was pretty tame bacuse the user base was a bit more mature.

Now have to get off CC to give my eyes a break.

I just read through this thread. First time here in ages after the horrid revamp.

Have to go now because my eyes hurt and starting to get headache from the typeface. ?. My eyes are usually just fine reading things.

I went to the trackalytics site this morning.

The current improvements aren’t doing much to increase traffic to CC. CC reached its heyday around May 2017, with ~14,900 pageviews. There was a drop after that, but pageviews rebounded to about 12,000 by May 2018. Another drop to ~5600 by Dec 2018. (Were there website changes around June of each year?) A rebound to 7300 by June 2019, then the steep drop after the latest relaunch. Just a little upward movement since then, but there are only ~3700 pageviews/day now. I wonder what the PTB say about all of this?

There was another revamp a couple years back but can’t tell you the timeline. I didn’t like that one either but at least it was tolerable.

@conmama If they would just fix the font at this point,

If they would make it configurable it would be better. It’s not hard. There are multiple mechanisms for doing this.

We already have profiles and the font selection would just be a switch in a CSS. Or we could select an approved CSS theme. Or they could use JS/jQuery to modify the font styles based on user settings.

The reasoning is probably more than just the font. The content is stale, it’s all about HS kids and transfers asking the same thing over and over again and the same people saying the same things over and over again, making it sound like fact instead of opinion. The answers are going to remain the same whether it was asked 3 years ago or now. All the college kids with post-admissions questions have disappeared.

In checking the Trackalytics page (https://www.trackalytics.com/website/collegeconfidential.com/), it’s interesting that there has been a slow increase in pageviews since the Big Drop after the latest relaunch in June 2019. The all-time low appears to be about 182,685 pageviews, and yesterday’s was 228,709. Still a far cry from CC’s heyday with ~744,000 pageviews/day. The site owners/managers appear to be more willing to make fixes for user issues. Perhaps they really are concerned that they really messed things up with the latest relaunch? So is it this seeming willingness to actually fix issues that is causing the increase in pageviews, or is it just the normal admission season increase in posts from the latest crop of high school seniors?

If you view CC through “Latest Posts” mode, like me, the slow uptick has been apparent. Takes longer to get through it. For a while there, You could check once a day and still be in the 10 page range.

Agreed. By no means scientific, but when I do my mod sweep in the morning, it takes be to page 9, sometimes 10 to get to my “last read.” It was 6 or 7 pages post-relaunch
