Its December 1st!

caolila…what was your gpa. and if im deferred im thinking about writing OSU a letter that its my #1 school and if i get accepted i will go there…ive heard this can be helpful, what do you think?

Still on Evaluation.

@foodgud

My gpa was not good - like 3.0 UW (school I received my diploma from doesn’t weight). But I had a strange situation (you can read that on an earlier post in this thread). I had 2 F’s a litter of Cs and C’-s, but dominantly B to B-'s. BUT I worked so hard in 10th and 11th (8 or 9 courses a term), that I essentially moved on to college in my senior year. My AP’s were good (English Lang 5/World History 5/US History 4). Including my AP’s I had roughly 20 hours of college work completed with a 3.7 gpa at the time I applied. And it was solid work in advanced courses that built on my AP’s (like the Plays of William Shakespeare and Russian Language).

When I went to OSU I had 37 semesters hours of work completed. By the end of my first year I will be a junior by credits.

On reflection, I didn’t sell myself well at all. My application was like making one big excuse for those bad high school grades instead of focusing on what I’d done well, especially after returning home. I nearly had straight A’s when I was at home again.

So, if you are going to send in supplemental information I’d say it would be best to focus on the positive and point out something new, like FieldHockey’s top grades now that her mom is well. If you can send them something like a new award, straight A’s from fall term (or a change in performance), a new achievement and also convey that OSU is your first choice, it might make a difference. I am not in admissions of course, but it just makes sense to give admissions something they can say “well now, here’s a reason to say YES!”.

I agree you definitely have a chance even if deferred. Being deferred just makes things a bit more of a scramble. I ended up having to attend the very final orientation in the summer.

Hope this helps.

yes thanks caolila! i think im going to go ahead and write something to them because im not sure if my essay truly showed how much i want to go there…i of cousre want to be accepted right off the bat but i have realized that its much more likely ill be deferred or even waitlisted. when did you hear back that you were accepted?

when will decisions start picking up again now that admissions office is open again?

@cammac

It seems to me that decisions haved already picked up… 6 people from my school heard back from OSU yesterday/today

just as im saying that

ACCEPTED!!!
applied november 5th (same day as you haha)
3.90 weighted
3.75 unweighted
9 AP credits
2010 SAT (1360)
great ecs and recs
:)

I think I was deferred then waitlisted and then got in April 15-20. They probably had someone else from OOS drop, and it opened up a spot.

If you are going to send something, then you might want to fax/email them and let them know. It would be awful to be deferred just as you are mailing supplemental information. Perhaps they can wait until you send in a note.

When you write to OSU can you first emphasize some aspect of academics before you convey how much you want to go to OSU? If your fall term was good and you had a good performance in (sports/music/leadership - anything) I’d make my first paragraph, or two, focus on that. Then the closing on how much you want to go to OSU. If you look at their orientation videos [Orientation : Student Life](Orientation : Office of Student Life) you can get a sense of the community OSU is trying to build. Let them know how you’ll contribute to that community.

Be sure there are no mistakes in the letter and have someone else help proof/revise.

Best wishes! I hope you become a buckeye.

Congrats cammac!

Congrats ohioeleven! So happy for you guys!

how long does it take for the actual letter of acceptance to come?
I was accepted Jan 2nd, but I haven’t gotten a letter in the mail yet, so I was just wondering around how long haha

Congradualtuons cammac! We should all know soon guys don’t worry :)

Congrats Canmac :))!!

gratz cammac (:!!! And I was accepted on January 5th, and received my official acceptance letter today on January 6th… however i live really close to campus so that’s prob why is was so fast

thanks for answering my question!
I live in California HAHA, dang! it’ll probably take a while I’m guessing
OSU wasn’t my first choice, but I’m def excited now :)

Congrats guys, still evaluation for me. Ugh… 12 weeks tomorrow. Maybe I’ll hear back tomorrow then we shall see.

Has anyone heard of anybody being denied? Not just waitlisted or deferred but flat out rejected? Still haven’t heard, but it can’t be too much longer!

it’s interesting that we haven’t heard of anyone being denied, i’m not sure what that means. makes me wonder if everyone will hear of being denied at the same time? i’m not sure. i really would like to believe that none of us on here will be denied. if they wanted too but now, they would have. just keep positive spirits :)

Why would anyone be denied before February 1st, the actual deadline to apply for Fall 2011? That doesn’t seem logical to me.

Wouldn’t you want to know what the entire group of applicants looked like before you made such a definite decision?
