Wish I could help you guys more!

Thanks for the info caolila! I dunno I think deferral means there is no decision made yet so they letting you know that it will take longer, and wait-listed means you were basically accepted but there aren’t enough spots for you so you have to wait for a spot to open up.

kindasortasmart

Yeah that is what I was thinking but to be honest I don’t remember being conscious of the distinction. All I remember thinking was “what, Ohio State isn’t taking me?”

I also was waitlisted at a top level school where I had free tuition (long story). My family was really pressuring me to go there and focusing all their energy on that. So maybe that is why I don’t remember moving from referral to waitlist. But I was definitely waitlisted.

Anyway, I still think you guys have a good chance. But I’d sure love to be a fly on the wall of admissions and understand how they think and how they do this. Also, I wonder how many high end folks apply just before the Feb 1st deadline? Anybody have an idea about that?

I do not quite understand, are we considered with the people who apply before Feb 1st? Or after?

That’s the question. I’m not sure.

If you are deferred now, then you know, but could some people on eval be held till Feb 1st to see who else applies? I have no idea…

Wish someone working in admissions could say…

ok although osu doesnt have “early action”, those who applied before feb 1st basically did. if you are deferred, it means that youre borderline…good enough but the school wants to see what the rest of the poeple who apply by feb 1st look like…so they are comparing you to the rest of the incoming people who are applying…basing it off also of who has been accepted and chooses to go to another school. think of it as youre applying all over again brand new haha

Aha no one seems to know. I think if you let your application sit it should wait it out but I think if you update info/send a letter you should be considered as if you applied from the date they get the updated information. I’m not sure.

I just wish someone could explain exactly what any school, not just OSU, is looking for when they apply. It never fits a formula.

amen. but for a lot of schools, especially ones like osu that gets thousands and thousands of applicants, they have all kinds of fancy software…its not just like one person sitting at a computer looking at apps…there are programs that i guess will show how likely it is a person will attend that college by looking at all kinds of statistics…wierd. i know this because someone in my family worked for admissions at johns hopkins…

I guess that makes sense although I never really thought about it. But I figured Penn State had something because they coughed up a rejection 9 days after I applied. I think I picked the wrong major for PSU. I didn’t care though because I’d been to a sports camp there and their dorms were awful. The place was in the middle of nowhere, too.

School does not rank.

I would gauge top 20/100 but GPA is low due to agerage of 4 H or HH classes per year.

If took College Prep 1 vs Honors GPA would of been over 3.6 / 4

Minnesota & Mich St. are now my tops

Good luck to all, Maybe see you in a year or two

i am just so frustrated…what could they possibly be doing with my application? like is it really that hard to make a decision…osu is my number 1 and im not really lovin all the other schools i got in so i wanna know if i should apply elsewhere except i havent heard from osu!!its crazy. today this kid told me he applied in june and still hasnt heard…hes committed somewhere else but jeez

DEB09
i had a 3.3 GPA 1930 SAT applied late october for business major undecided

may i ask if you were in state or out

Just checked OSU’s website and saw that I was accepted. No email or letter? I will just assume it is coming.

food

Did you ever receive a decision?

hah nope still waiting…seems like im the only one left…in the world( of course who applied way before dec 1st:) i dont know what to think of it!

Question: If I received a letter of reccomendation from my boss, am i allowed to fax it to ohio state or should i mail it?

food im still waiting too. I applied sept 12

My DD is still waiting too. Applied early September and they had everything from her school by the end of the week. And I know a couple of people at work whose kids are in the same boat. One of my friends called today and spoke with an AdCom and was told that there is no connection between how long it’s taking and your chances of being admitted (not totally sure I buy that since it seems like most of the slam dunks - good and bad - have already heard). Also, she was told that her S should hear in the next two weeks AND that they normally just update the website once a day, around 4:00 so no point in checking morning, noon and night.

Hope that is helpful. Please come back here and update the site when you hear and we will do the same. Good luck!
