IU Early Action Acceptances - Class of 2025

Agree 100% with everything you’ve stated. I really hope that prospective students will stumble on these posts in the future so they can make a more informed decision about applying than we were able to make.

When you were invited to apply for the SSA, it stated which scholarships you were being considered for. For my son, it was Hutton and College of Arts and Sciences. Those are the only 2 that he was considered for through the SSA. So once you receive word on those, you’re done with SSA awards.

Have any notifications been sent regarding Kelley scholarships? Sorry if I missed a previous comment.

I was going to ask about Kelley scholarships but see now it’s for in state only…and don’t know how to delete this post!

That’s odd. We are OOS and my son received and email to apply for 3 additional scholarships. One of them being Kelley.

Are you referring to the Kelley SSA scholarships or the non-SSA Kelley DA scholarships?

We drove up from Texas and walked the self-guided walking tour, along with driving around, Sunday and Monday. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn for $99/night. There is a hotel on campus, as well. I recommend a visit. It was our second time there, after driving around the city/campus in the summer, when my daughter was in the early stages of considering colleges and was not committed on a choice.
Campus felt big/spread out compared to other universities that we visited, other than UT and TAMU. Although the campus seemed spread out, we were surprised that we saw few bikes. Maybe students use the free buses/shuttles, or maybe the self-guided tour made the campus feel bigger than it is. Also, we stopped there a few days after visiting U of Iowa and Purdue, which may have impacted our perspective. Pretty campus and lively little city. Both seem progressive on the political side, based upon signage and graffiti, which is not surprising for a college town. Greek housing has impressive structures.
If you have any questions, feel free to message me.

If you were just there this past weekend the lack of bikes may be due to fact that they are on break. Classes start up again on the 15th I believe. We were also there for walking tour on Sat — beautiful weather and campus. It’s also the first campus I have seen with enclosed / locked bike storage units outside of dorms. Seems like a great idea.

Oh, okay, thanks for adding that information, @cmublue . We had no idea, as we thought that they had canceled spring break this year. Many students must have decided to stay on campus, rather than go home.

We had thought the same thing but when walking campus one of the students told us they had at least a long weekend — mental health break. The student said a lot of kids left campus for the weekend.

there is no spring break this year, there are 3 wellness days scattered throughout the semester, there are less students on campus because of online classes

Unfortunately, the bike lockers are only in a couple of locations. Great idea, though. I wish more schools had them. My son is an avid cyclist/triathlete and he can’t figure out how to bring his bike(s) with him to college as a freshman as they are not allowed in the dorms anywhere. Honestly, the bike scene at IU is one of the factors keeping IU/Kelley in play for him.

Previously someone mentioned the possibility of additional increase to merit - is there any update on that or potential timing?

D21 got into Luddy School of Informatics (AI major). We are from southern CA and not sure if we should go ahead. Any feedbacks

Back to the SSA, as mentioned earlier my daughter did not fill it out because frankly she was uncomfortable for again asking for recommendations. She had eliminated Indiana in her mind. So we did nothing. Today she got this on top of the $10K merit.

I hope this message finds you well! Based on the content of your IU application and/or your Selective Scholarship Application, you have been selected to receive our Global Citizen Scholarship for the 2021–2022 academic year in the amount of $16,000 , which will be distributed over four consecutive academic years. The award will be evenly distributed each semester.

Congratulations! Nice surprise to receive. Is this a scholarship for international students?

No - born in California, live in TN.

My daughter was potentially going to pursue the Chinese Flagship but definitely going to major in International Studies. I’ve read the board over the months with amazement because if you didn’t know it was Indiana, you’d presume it was Babson or Bentley. It’s Kelly…or another college. No one studies anything but Business at IU apparently. Perhaps that’s why we got the scholarship.

Honestly, and she said she’s still not going (we’re up to $14K with the $10K initial, she just decided later that while she likes Indiana, she likes other school’s more) - I just thought odd and frankly insulting to those who did the SSA (she chose not to) - that this came.

She needs to start telling colleges she’s not going to no - but she first wants to commit. I highly doubt though schools re-use funding. I think they offer who they offer. They don’t send to someone else if you don’t use…maybe on the highest awards that are few people but not the main ones.

Hi! I recently filled only the general application? Will I be eligible to scholarships through only the general application without filling the recommended scholarships?

If IU recommends you a scholarship and there is a red box, stating Apply, then you have to specifically apply for that scholarship. There are a host of scholarships that you will be considered for just by filling out the General Application. Good Luck
