Direct admit from Kelley yesterday.

My DD is a DA (direct admit) freshman at IU Kelley. To answer your question, the student can’t even have a B-. It must be a B (not minus) or above. My DD finds the multiple classes challenging. She already finished her 8 week intense accounting class with a B- (which is okay because she is a DA). There are RA (regular admit) students who have never received a B in high school, but are now getting B- or below in some classes. Econ seems to be the greatest challenge in this 1st semester. Take this into consideration when deciding if IU is the best fit. There are options if you don’t get accepted. This is a regular question asked on the Kelley parent FB page.

As of last year, the requirement for regular admits to be admitted after freshman year is based on the grades in each class (not an overall GPA). A student can’t receive a B- (minus) in any pre-req class. IU calculates GPA’s using +/-. So every class must be a solid B or above. Example 1st semester schedule from my daughter: Econ, Accounting, Calculus, Business Presentations (all pre-reqs) taken this fall semester freshman plus a “fluff class” that turned out to not be an easy A. Hope this helps!

I wish they would just come out and say if you submitted a review you will not hear back until XX. I think last year it was more rolling but this year does it seem they will wait til after RD comes out?

On my daughters page where she submitted the review it clearly Says she will hear by April 14

That’s how I read it too. By mid April

Son has the stats for DA and applied by the deadline. Still haven’t heard anything! Hard seeing that others have. Should we be concerned?

You haven’t heard at all? Or not from Kelley?

IU says we will tell everyone by Jan 15, it’s Dec 23, what would be concerning?

Adversity can be good especially when there is no question your son will be admitted if he has auto stats. Everything hard is not bad. Patience is hard for high schoolers and their parents when we are so used to instant gratification. It’s part of college reality. Enjoy your son over the holiday and less worry about IU. In 22 days you’ll know.

general post here from current kelley student. no need to panic for anyone who applied early and is still waiting, i submitted my DA petition in early to mid november 2021 and heard back mid january 2022. patience is key with them, there are a lot of kids applying. feel free to pm me if you have specific questions about my kelley experience or any of my application stats

current kelley soph wanting to ease some nerves here for those who might be concerned. yes, kelley classes are not easy! i struggled with econ and that accounting class, but let me assure that there are more than enough resources to help. plenty of tutors, extra help sessions from profs/ta’s, and even working together with other students helped me grasp difficult concepts. i ended with A’s in both classes and while they were not easy, they are good lessons for students to really put in work and study as this is not high school anymore.

cannot stress the importance of DA days for students. gives a pretty inside look on what life is like at kelley and you can interact with a lot of current students (especially freshmen) to get a better insight and ask any questions. throwing it out there as well as a former jllc member to take the tour and explore that. yes the mcnutt dorms are not the absolute best room-wise but the location is super close to kelley and i met some of my closest friends on my jllc floor and had almost unlimited help for my classes.

Among the two housing which to choose - Honors(Tuters) vs JLLC ?

I think you’re referring to the Teter dorms with the Honors college. I’m not super familiar with that, from what I’ve heard it’s not too bad but has honors students from all majors. My recommendation there is to look at a floor plan/pictures of mock rooms in each to see which would fit best and explore what each living option has to offer.

As far as JLLC, it is only Kelley DA’s in the north half of McNutt, they have lots of exclusive networking and business events for the students to attend. There are also lots of upperclassman tutors that live there as well that offer extra guidance and support. Cannot say enough good things about my experience, I made so many new friends and was able to work together for all the first year Kelley classes with my neighbors. Really helped me adjust and settle in much faster than other kids living in standard dorms.

Haven’t heard at all. Although his portal did change from Univ Pre Business to Business. But still says applicant.

Will Kelley just let folks know if their petition is successful? Or will they also let you know if it’s not approved? Do you hear either way?

Kelley, not the University, will let you know affirmatively if successful or rejected or waitlisted. Typically by early-ish March although I think Kelley will say by April officially.

While there may be a small batch of Kelley reviews admitted in January, most will be post 2-1 decisions depending on how many auto-stat admits exist as of Jan 15 toward the yield. With earlier DA days than in the past we may see a number of Kelley review decisions in early February.
