IU Kelley Petition Tracker 2025

Is there any way to know how many petitions they have released so far?

Thank you! Because you seem pretty knowledgeable- any sense for who that might be? We were a test optional with a GPA that exceeded requirements so I’m thinking that might be lower than maybe someone who was maybe a few points off on the GPA but made the test? Any guesses?

S25 who had one B+, many AP and honors classes, and a 1500+ SAT is still on the petition waiting list. His high school doesn’t print the GPA on the transcript, which is why he wasn’t direct admit. We’ll see how it goes!

Every time I see someone post this, it makes me mad. Do the counselor and administrators understand the potential consequence of their decision, meaning a student who technically qualifies for DA, may not in fact get DA simply because the school won’t print out a copy of the transcript with the GPA on it?

How hard is it to do that for the students who might need that??? That’s a rhetorical question because I know it’s not hard (our public HS of 1,000 per class prints transcripts with wGPA only, but if a student also wants uwGPA on it, all they have to do is ask.)

Adults working in education should be working to make college admissions better/less stressful for kids, not harder and/or more stressful.

My son qualified on GPA, but not test score (did submit test scores), does anyone know if GPA or test score is more heavily considered in the petition request? The waiting is exhausting!

We’ve seen all cases being reported. DD was approved with UW GPA slightly under 3.8 and SAT of 1500 around mid-Feb. Several test-optional kids were approved ahead/after her. There isn’t a clear pattern. Also, they may be looking at rigor and not just UW GPA during reviews–not sure, pure speculation.

I’m sure with these stats, your son will have better options if not any lessor than Kelley.
I do feel your pain and frustration though.

Thank you!

Does anyone really think it is worth waiting until April 14th just to get rejected? I applied test optional with good EC’s and IB diploma candidacy but don’t think I even have a shot of getting in. 3.9 UW with 4.4 W. I have several other great options that have given me DA and good scholarships so I was just asking for an opinion. Thanks

During the Webinar last night, MANY people asked questions on numbers (example, how many petitions, how many expected to be admitted from petition, etc) and the IU team did not answer with specific numbers. They said that they had a record number of applicants to Kelley for DA, as well as a record number of review requests. They also said that they look at the review requests holistically, hence why it’s taking so much time (clearly, because my son was admitted to Pre Bus in Nov and submitted his RR first week of Dec, and is still waiting).

Well, only you can answer that. If you’d pick Kelley over your other DA options, then it’s absolutely worth waiting. Otherwise, if it’s just to feel good about another acceptance, I’d much rather withdraw to improve chances for the rest.

They received ~4500 review petitions.

There’s no harm in waiting! And, worse case scenario, you commit to another school and you lose your deposit if you change your mind. Canadian schools send acceptances until May 30! We have encouraged our son to commit to his current top choice, and if he gets admitted to a school later, he can change his mind.

And apparently they only have roughly 2,000 spots available for DA. So I expect at least 1000/4500 or 22% to get in through review process. Based on past years, the review acceptance rate was 50-65% for incoming freshman, but the last 2 years Kelley has received 20,000+ applicants.

They admit around 8000 to build a target class of 2000 (+500 through standard admit.)
We don’t know how many they admitted through Auto DA, so hard to say petition acceptance rate.
I’m told they received a total of around 27000 applications requesting Kelley major.
You’d be surprised how many who apply don’t even know that there’s a petition process until very late, and hence a much lower petition count than one would imagine.

In reality, they say where you go to business undergrad doesn’t really matter. It’s what you make of it. So I won’t even be mad if I don’t get in. Thanks for the info.

Wow, that would be a big drop from 2024, when they reported 27,000 applications! Wonder why it would drop so much in one year?

I would assume people opted to apply to higher ranked Ivy’s instead (Vandy, Duke, UNC, Penn, etc..)

I must correct myself. I meant to write 27000, sorry about that. Also, I’m not sure about this number. I’m pretty certain of the petition count as 4500. Was told by Kelley admissions in first week of Feb when I called.

Only 4500? Then it’s quite likely more are admitted since people must have forgotten that the review request existed. I got an email very early on that “We encourage you to apply for direct admission based on your academic record” so I immediately hopped on it early November.
