My daughter received an acceptance to her request yesterday.
Just got an email to join “Pre-Business Admitted Student Webinar”. Not sure if that means rejection from the review request? Anyone else received this email?
We got it. Seems generic; my son attended the first session and still got this email.
Not sure if it helps those waiting for petition reviews; we’ve withdrawn our IUB/Kelley application, like anyone should, as soon as they know they won’t be attending.
We didn’t attend the Kelley DA day, but DD spent over a week at MEET Kelley last summer so knows more than is possible to know in a day visit.
Kelley has fallen out of our top-3 which now includes Madison, UGA Terry (pipped out Purdue and Kelley after an impressive visit y’day). UGA seems to have the campus life of IUB (perhaps better) and academic rigor of Purdue, and of course weather … lol..
The third entrant for us is a wild card — SCU Leavey.. beautiful campus, great placements, small classes, one hour flight from our home in WA, with 5 mins ride from San Jose airport (I can literally visit my kid over a weekend or get her home).
It will be interesting next 2 weeks now.. all the best to everyone feeling nervous.. we got this.
+1 for SCU. My S25 would have considered it top if it was not too close to home. Probably need significant merit to be competitive to purdue, which in our case is.
Interestingly UGA is also very reasonable for OOS cost, and at par with Purdue.
Santa Clara is definitely safer, if it matters. If the cost of SCU is also on par then it is a tough choice.
We’re attending the Preview Day on Apr 12th and a local meet up in Seattle next week.
As a dad who worries a lot, it’s my #1 pick; I just want to make sure DD likes it more than her other top options and can see herself there next 4 years.
+2 for Santa Clara! The more we learn about it, the more S25 (and I) appreciate it! He got into the Honors Program, which right now is way more appealing than the high-pressure hustle to make it through IU standard admit. He’s still visiting schools and is not decided, but if IU stays pre-business my hunch is that he’ll pick SCU.
UGA is not direct admit
That’s right. UGA is not direct admit, but:-
- It’s not a direct admit school across the board; everyone is assigned their “intended” major, which isn’t a factor in admissions, so no confusions about who gets in vs who doesn’t— love that transparency.
- For business, you can apply for Terry whenever you think you are ready. and more than one time if you’d like/need; many students who bring in IB/AP credits apply as early as the spring semester of freshmen year, even though it’s more common to apply in sophomore year.
- Only very specific business subjects’ GPA is evaluated in addition to a score in an accounting exam (Accounting/Finance only); so you’re not living in fear of getting a B- in any exam, and being out.
- The entire cohort is in it together—and that makes a huge difference
- For us personally, this was a huge concern going into the visit, but after touring it, meeting advisors, professors and students, it all felt like it’s the best way to academically groom and prepare students for a competitive major.
Yes, we got this email invite too. I don’t know what to make of it, since we attended the first webinar already. Seems like we are still on the SA list …?
My son chatted with IU this week re: his petition and was told to hang tight because acceptances will continue until April 14th. I think this was mentioned previously but just in case someone missed it!
As far as everyone understands- if you got in as pre business you can go standard admission? I know they were rejecting pre business students or waitlisting them.
Anyone’s kid thinking about standard admit path?
We are visiting mid April and I think my son might be leaning this way. I think he’d rather be somewhere warmer but IU looks like a beautiful campus and the program looks so strong.
I am a prospective student who was thinking about the SA path…but it is not worth the risk. All A’s and one B- officially kicks you out of consideration for sophomore year. I’m heavily considering it if my DA request goes through, since there’s less pressure, but otherwise I have other good programs that have given me DA.
Did anyone else attend the webinar last night? The speakers made it quite clear that they admissions for Kelley through petition are slowly rolling out, and will be completed by April 14.
All B’s or above in All classes will be auto admit to Kelley. One B- would put you into a review after freshman year.
It’s absolutely possible to get in standard admit. I’ve known plenty to get in, and a few with B- to also get in.
Yes, possible.. But it comes with 60k plus/year huge risk for a kid who wants only a business degree.. on top of it a huge amount of stress the kids and parents go through.. standard admit is only for those who are ok with not being accepted and are interested in alternative majors.. there have been exceptional kids who did not want to deal with the stress of standard pathway and wisely chose other direct admission offers that they have.. A direct admit in a lesser ranked program is worth the peace!
Any guesses (or info from the webinar) on how many petitions they are letting in? Seems like so far they are just gender balancing so I don’t have a lot of hope for direct admission for my son. Has anyone been denied yet?
About 1k would be in line with prior years - about 250-500 of those enroll. No reason to think that’s changed this year. Many will be via an initial waitlist and then admission post Apr 14. Everyone is basically on a waitlist right now - they just don’t tell you that officially until later next week thru Apr 14.
