IU Kelley Petition Tracker 2025

Creating a thread to track Kelley Petitions… We went through this process in 2022 and would happy to answer any questions …
If you do not meet the criteria for automatic direct admission to Kelley, you must submit a review request by February 1 to be considered for direct admission. A review request is just that—you are requesting that the Kelley admissions team review your application to determine if your academic and personal experiences qualify you for direct admission.

Request review is your opportunity to demonstrate to the Kelley Admission committee you are sincerely interested in direct admission and how your academic and personal experiences have prepared you to thrive at Kelley.

Unsure why you didn’t qualify for automatic direct admission? One or more of the following apply:

  • You don’t meet the required GPA or test score.
  • You applied test optional.
  • You attended more than one high school.
  • Your high school does not report GPA on the high school transcript.
  • You missed the November 1 application deadline.
  • Your IU admissions letter indicates “Pre-Business.”

Direct Admission Criteria has not changed or is not updated. The past couple of years direct admit has become more competitive and submitting the petition earlier helps …

Kelley petition submitted 10/7

4.2W, 1320 SAT (620M/700RW, not super scored, second take)

Strong ECs related primarily to youth advocacy and mental health groups (state and county level), other community and high school service, and some business related internships and summer camps (one was at Kelley)

Good luck everyone, looking forward to hearing from you all!

Do you know if these petitions are reviewed on a rolling basis and/or if you can add anything? He submitted his right the second week in November- he was close to cut off 3.79 GPA, 1450 SAT - he has straight As in all AP classes this year (of course) but he says there is no way to edit or update the review request.

Based on last year’s thread, I am seeing petition acceptances started coming out late January. This year, Kelley’s website said they may not come out as late as mid-April, but they will be on a rolling basis somewhere roughly within that timeframe.

I actually had some significant changes to my course load for next semester (taking 2 additional IU classes and other dual-credit classes). I called the admissions office yesterday and they were pretty blunt saying that I can’t update my application as it is past November 1, despite having to indicate that I would update any school I’ve applied to on changes to my application after applying.

I doubt there is anything you can do at this point, but I’m willing to bet your son will be fine. Based on everything I’ve read, Kelley being my top choice, a difference of a .01 in the GPA with a 1450 SAT should get him in. I’m obviously not an admissions officer nor do I know about the rest of his app, but he’s 99.9% the way there.

Did you call Kelley admissions directly versus regular admissions? They may be more helpful but I also don’t think they are going to look at any changes.

I thought about having my son contact them when his perfect grades this semester and to better express strong interest but I’m thinking it will 50-50 annoy them vs charm them - ugh. He has never gotten less than a B in any class ever and he takes all honors and AP but somehow I feel the do or die pressure with a kid away from home for the first time is not an excellent combo and I worry about the stress and ruining the excitement of first year by being scared the whole time. Or maybe that is me! Lol

I called the Kelley office of admissions directly. It’s a separate process and I’ve already been accepted as Pre-Finance to IU.

As far as contacting them, I couldn’t really see it mattering for better or for worse. I doubt they will really care about his current grades though.
I personally haven’t had any luck with the Kelley admissions office or through reaching out to some reps Ive met personally, but I’d argue that it’s definitely worth a try. Do consider they’ve received a huge influx of applications in recent years.

As for you and your kid, I’d say it depends on him. I find that I perform better under pressure. Consider if he is the opposite.

As for my personal experiences an in-state applicant, I have lots of friends at IU. One pledged a frat this fall and connected me with some Pre-Kelley students. Of the Pre-Kelley kids in his class, they are all on track to gain standard admission while still involved socially.

Wishing your son the best of luck!

That is good info to have because as I read Reddit and others it sounds like many kids are finding ONE class that they are getting a B- or C in and then not making it. It turns out my son contacted admissions without telling me (he seems determined to interfere with my ability to helicopter parent) and just told them that his GPA was going to be above the DA limit and if that made any difference and he was told no, they only take the first six sememsters. I don’t even know how he worded the message, probably like a text to one of his friends.

He is a serious student but only recently figured out an organizational method to manage his executive functioing issues in regards to school, so mostly his GPA suffered from missing assignments.

He is pretty social and really into sports (playing and watching) but is not a big drinker so I think he could avoid getting too lost in the party scene and stay focused but I see him really trending towards some of his direct admits at this point due to the standard admission risk which kills me because I think he’d love IU, he’s an old soul throwback kind of kid and I hear that IU has a really classic college experience which I think he’d thrive in.

Thanks for the well wishes! Good luck to you as wel!!

If he has figured out his time management, I think he will be okay. I still think he will get direct admission.
The party scene at IU is one of the wildest in the Big 10/midwest as a whole. That being said, it’s a beautiful campus and definitely fits your description.
Even if he doesn’t get direct admission, tons of people get standard admission. I just saw another thread say only around 12% of students received automatic standard admission last year, which left room for about 40% of others to be reviewed and admitted. Not sure how accurate those statistics are, but standard admission is definitely doable.

About 2,000 students each year are direct admit, and typically another 500-600 students meet standard admission requirements for their second year. Kelley also adds some transfer students each year from Indiana CCs as well as other four year colleges.

Thank you. Do you have any idea of how many kids attempt pre-business in a normal year?

Sorry, I don’t know.

If you already did the petition form, does it automatically populate your gpa and test scores? Can you see them on the form? Hope this makes sense!

To clarify, if you submitted a petition, when you opened the form in the portal did it include your scores and grades? The description on the Kelley website made it sound like scores and gpa would populate automatically on the form.

No it’s just the two essays and the additional info box. There’s nothing else in that “portal.” They must have it all internally.

Thank you!

Does anyone have the petition essay prompts that they can post here? There’s a bit of a lag to getting the computing account set up and my daughter would like to get to writing. Thank you!
