He’s waitlisted at IU but direct admins to Kelley?
He is both direct admit & wait listed at Kelly. Looks like as mentioned above by someone, at this point, most may get to direct admit with wait list at Kelly. This is their way to ensure they have enough students in pipeline in case the ones already confirmed direct admit do not put in deposit because they chose another school.
Direct Admit without a review means he had the stats to be Direct Admit without a request. So, yes, same as last year there was a waitlist. Many kids with DA will pick a different school
The review requests are in a different pile
Okay thanks! DS is considering IU or SC options. For SC he can’t do business. We are visiting both in April. Anyone else contemplating IU just doing pre business ? Advice? He’s my oldest so I don’t really have a clue….
But why waitlist then? That is tricky.
I’m sorry, I’m not following your comment. If he is admitted to IU as a direct admit, then he is officially into Kelley. Are you saying that he was admitted to IU as a pre-business major, completed the petition to receive direct admit to Kelley, and just recently received a notification saying that he is waitlisted to Kelley? If so, I’m surprised they are sending waitlist notifications already since the date of notification is by April 14.
My kid was deferred EA for Business school… He had submitted his petition review request in early Oct itself. We were a bit shocked by deferral for pre-business… After some frustration my kid submitted a LOC interest. Yesterday, he got a letter saying he is waitlisted and it did not clearly specify if the waitlist is for Prebusiness or waitlisted for Kelley… The waitlist offer required him to select an alternate major. Here is what it said, Please Note: Available spaces for students interested in studying one of the majors offered through the Kelley School of Business will be very limited. Please select an alternative major below. If spaces to pursue a major in the Kelley School of Business do not become available, we may offer you admission to your alternative major"
I think Kelley is full now even for those who have been admitted as Prebusiness and have a review petition pending… My kid was debating between Rutgers Business school vs Virginia Tech , and accepted VT Pamplin Business school direct admission for Finance. He has secondary interests in Engineering in case he decides to change major… It seems for IU Bloomington, other than Kelley, as an OOS student he is not drawn to any other major there… so Prebusiness even if offered he would have turned down due to risk of not getting into Kelley… Good luck to all…
That seems crazy!
Was your DS officially accepted as pre business or that never happened?
For mine he was accepted as pre business so I would hope he could follow the standard admit pathway with grades…. It did seem like they were being strict with the pre business majors this year.
Thanks for your help understanding!
He was never officially accepted to Prebusiness! I understand not being offered admission to Kelley direct admit but pre business deferral was surprising. Anyway he still submitted his waitlist response to see if he can get an direct admit…but has moved on… They could have clarified the waitlist offer a bit more if it is for Prebusiness or not… Good luck to your kid. Additionally, in his LOC following deferral, he specifically wrote that his only interest in IU is a direct admission to Kelley… so it likely tilted to waitlist and we are clear in not risky our money on possible entry to Kelley as Prebusiness… it is not cheap and all it takes one bad term (quite often the first one) to drown the dreams and then figure what to do!
I just can not believe how competitive everything has become!
Thank you for the clarification- my son has IU pre business and SC (alternative major) option as his top two. He does really like law as well but currently thinking business as undergraduate would be safer. SC he would go a pre law type major.
Sounds like VT and the other pathways would be great for your son! Or honestly an alternative major at IU. Did you visit there? We are going mid April. Let me know what he ends up choosing!
Your son seems to have good options. We did not visit … In his school in MA, IU is only known for Kelley among kids and they only apply for it… it is hard to convince kids to look otherwise with peer influence! He has 8 acceptances including Penn State DUS -his third choice. VT is popular in his school among kids and is also close to my relatives (added benefit)unlike IU which is no where convenient for us … I would have liked him to choose Rutgers Business school where we visited and is closer to us but he chose VT without even visiting there primarily on the strengths of alternate options (Eng) in case he changes his mind! If he gets Kelley direct admission from waitlist by sheer chance, then he would definitely come to IU. I think my son is making a good choice as it is important to have alternate options that one likes esp with young kids who can change their minds in a whim! Good luck.
My son submitted his petition in early Dec as he is international and applied TO. He was admitted to Pre Business with a scholarship back in early January. His portal hasn’t changed since January. We shall see!
Good luck to your son! Yes, that seems unusual. But no one really knows at this point if Kelley is full…time will tell I think! A friend of my son’s (male) just came off the petition, so they are still offering. Fingers crossed for all those waiting.
He applied during regular time line. Now heard that he is direct admit but wait listed. I don’t get it either.
The second, and last DA weekend at IU Kelley is March 27/28. Kelley uses these days to get an idea who will be attending in the Fall. Only students who are very interested in attending Kelley will attend DA days. None of this is new to Kelley. I would not give up hope on the petitions.
Anyone heard about direct admit last week or this week?
Not us!
We haven’t heard too! Guess as mentioned above after the next DA day?
Yes, realized this week is spring week at IU. So we will not hear anything this week, I guess.
The administration does not shut down for the kids spring break. We just hired a new basketball coach and IU was all over the news yesterday including a press conference from Assembly Hall with Pam Witten & Scott Dolson.
