NSM, Right, though I would just include that as one of the many ways in which the D could have figured out her identity. I would still consider it a breach of privacy if I was the D and hadn’t given permission for my business to be discussed for the reason that many have said - that no one who posts a significant amount and is fairly open can really consider themselves to be anonymous at all. I’d still apologize under those circumstances and promise not to discuss the personal details of her life online if she wasn’t comfortable with it.

Jym- did you DS name himself DII?

You can always give yourself a fresh start under a new name. And post as if the kids are standing over your shoulder reading what you are writing.

emeraldkity4 -
We still love you.
:)

LOL somemom!!! Thank heavens he DID NOT!! Some posters yank everyone’s chain, eh? ;)

I sometimes wish I had chosen a more vague name. Guess I could change it. I answered a question the other night and it was a parent from my son’s school. Small world.

EK–it could happen to any of us. If my DD ever reads what I say, I will probably be in trouble too.

EK - so sorry to hear this.

I am nervous to the point of paranoid that my kids will find out that I’m here. If they got on and followed a few of my posts they would know! I have avoided posting certain information about them for that reason.

:o

I just saw how many opened this thread without posting!!!

D is funny- and I better not say anything else- but it seems to be more about that I had this assumption about her friend- than that I was talking about her.

I used to be a big volunteer in her school inc PTA chair, which was pretty horrifying for her, but she lived through it & I expect it is anger on behalf of someone else that had really set her off.

My Ds not only know my screen names but my passwords- I just figured they were more like my husband who wouldn’t read a note addressed to him with a florescent sticky that said * Read This*,unless I handed it to him and waited.

But if they had gone onto CC- that is actually more indication they were interested in how I spend my “free time” or in finding out more about it anyway, so that is actually a good thing.
:)

I ended up doing this. I was originally using my aol user name (not only does my son know it but it’s in the school directory - not too bright on my part). I figure anyone who can manage to string together enough information from all my posts to figure who I am, well, then they just have too much time on their hands.

I would not want my son to read my posts because he might take some of it the wrong way. But as for others…I’ve thought about how I would handle it if I was able to identify someone I know on this forum. The way I see it we are all here looking for support and advice and, therefore, I would look at them with compassion. We all suffer trials and tribulations and have concerns about our children - the fact that someone is posting here simply means they are reaching out to others for support (whether you know them IRL or not).

I have to admit that now that son has gone through the application process, I’m a little less paranoid about it.

Are any of you guys on LiveJournal? I’m a big fan of LJ . . . People don’t bombard you with stupid “I’m eating breakfast now!” and “I watched reality TV last night” entries, like they do on Facebook. (Also: no onslaught of Farmville.) And it’s much more private than a message board (if you use the “Friends Only” setting). I hang out at a lot of message boards, but I try to reserve more private information for LiveJournal.

(Also: no onslaught of Farmville.

what is up with that?

My D in PDX has a very active LJ community- but in Seattle it isn’t as active as Yelp- most people seem to be my daughters age- late 20’s.

This thread kind of makes me laugh, because it’s not as if most of your kids aren’t talking about you online, too.

^^ What are you talking about? You mean our kids talk about us online???

;)

^^ I hope that mine have far more interesting people to talk about. But you know, the only thing worse than being talked about…

I was just saying since a few people mentioned guilt about talking about their kids on here, I wondered if they realized. My mom would probably fall over dead if she saw some of the things I’ve written!

I’d be disturbed to find out she’s a CC mom, but it would be less because she’s discussing private matters (like I care what random people on the internet think of me anyway) and more because she’s an old person. Were I not an avid reader of this forum I imagine I would be very weirded out at the idea of old people on the internet doing the same things I do on the internet. Nothing personal. :P

;)
Old people * invented* teh internets.
and sex.
and electric guitar.

Not in that order.
:D

bubble tea however- we do not take credit for.

bubble tea?

I guess I am too old to know what that is. ;)

Ah, bubble tea. Daughter is trying to get me to like it. So far, she has not succeeded.

Oh, Boba Tea. I just wiki’d it.

They call it Boba Tea out here.

I don’t care for it, either.

Great response, EK! But then again, I’m old.
