My advisor showed me the email the foundation sent her when they told her that I won. It said that advisors had until the 20th to inform the recipients and that after the 20th they would notify everyone themselves. I’m assuming that means next week everyone will be officially notified by the foundation if they won or not.
Rejection letters went out today.
So I emailed the foundation yesterday and I received a reply. Definitely not what I was hoping for, but at least I have closure:
Thank you very much for applying to the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. You were among a small group of semifinalists whose exceptional talents and achievements made final selections a most difficult task. I regret to inform you, however, that you were not selected to receive a scholarship.
This year the Cooke Foundation received over 2,000 applications from students across the country and chose only 75 recipients. Though you were not selected as a Cooke Scholar, we applaud your many accomplishments which distinguish you from among the other applicants. Each application was reviewed by a panel of experienced readers who considered each student’s grades, essays, extracurricular pursuits, recommendations, financial need, and other factors. The promise and talent of all applicants impressed both our staff and reviewers and your distinction as a semifinalist should not be underestimated. Unfortunately, we could not award scholarships to all who applied.
I hope you will continue to challenge yourself in all aspects of your life as you transfer to a four-year college. That you did not receive this scholarship should not deter you from applying for others. For your convenience, we have compiled on our website a list of resources that you might find useful as you seek additional scholarship opportunities. http://www.jkcf.org/scholarship-programs/undergraduate-transfer/other-scholarship-opportunities/
I wish you much success in college and your career.
Finally. Rejected, as I expected. Honestly, I’m just relieved to have closure. Huge congratulations to the 75 winners! Although my journey will not be as a JKC Scholar, I still plan to meet you all at the top. Here’s to our mutual success!
I think that was the nicest rejection letter I’ve ever received
@sdudasik it really was lol
@PorcelainPixie: I didnt receive last email cause’ I graduated at the time I applied
I also received my rejection letter today. I am relieved and not stressed because I should be able to finish my bachelor’s relatively unscathed with some more hard work. Congrats to everyone who did get it I hope you help to change the world some day.
@Quietlybear sorry I cannot pay up. I’ll have a nonalcoholic drink in your honor in early August.
It was fun talking to all of you over these last months. This is ForestryGuy signing off.
Hi, @optimisticky, I’m just curious. The foundation mentions that “Cooke Scholars additionally are eligible for graduate school funding up to $50,000 per year for up to four years.” Do we need to apply for it after?
The deed is done!! Finally I get to move on with my life.
Finally done and finally rejected. Congrats to everyone who won!
Rejected! FINALLY. Oh my god. I’m so earnestly glad that that’s done with. Congratulations to all of those that won and I know that all the semi-finalists, winners and losers, are amongst some of the brightest currently in academia. It’s an honor to even have been a semi-finalist and I know you all will do wonderful things. Keep on keepin on guys. Much love.
Rejected! I did not receive the post-semifinalist emails, so I was anticipating this. Good luck with your academic endeavors, folks!
YAY REJECTION! Lol, feels like total relief. On to figuring out how to make it work some other way.
All the congratulations in the world to all of the winners! You deserve it, and I hope to hear more about the way you Cooke scholars are changing the world in the future :)>-
To those of you also not accepted: Don’t let this get you down. I know we all have varying levels of need going into our next chapter of academia, but you’re also all incredible people who can definitely keep making dreams come true.
“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough.”

Hey all! So - I’ve been following this thread for months now. Well, since the beginning of March when we were notified about being semi-finalists!
It’s been a pleasure seeing how awesome everyone is! We all have so much going for us - with or without JKC! I can’t imagine how tough these decisions must have been for the panel!
How are the rejection letters going out? Is it through email or snail mail?
Rejected as well. Congrats to everyone who got it!
@SaintJTransfer16 Email! If you haven’t received an email, and checked your junk box, give them a call.
Finally every thing is said and done. This morning before 11:00 am., I got what I expected - a rejected email (the same posted by @Deviantdex) because I don’t receive any email after the semifinalist notification. Again, heartfelt congratulation to all the winners. I know you will will be doing great. Please do remember us sometimes.
To all semifinalists like me, I wish you all the best. You are so incredible and you will still attain your goal although you might need to work a little harder. To every one, I hope to hear great stories from you guys in the future. We should also not forget that JKC foundation is doing great things for us. God bless you all! :-SS :-SS
@ArianaVenti yes, there is a competitive graduate scholarship available for cooke scholars that is separate from your current award, but i wouldn’t worry too much about it right now. just be distantly aware of it.
also this is the worst day on this forum. the turn downs. the bad news. i want to shield people from it. i couldn’t do it, say no to anyone. bad for the psyche. you’re all - all of you (except that mean guy from way back) - decent and honorable people that deserve recognition, support, and relief from your burdens. i wish you all the best, and if there’s anybody floating around chicago, i’d be down to hang. except i’m not in chicago right now. but you know.
