I’m a little confused whether I got or not… Did anyone else receive this message?

“Please be advised that all qualified applications that met minimal eligibility requirements are being reviewed. Semi-Finalists will be selected within the next few weeks and invited for a face-to-face interview. All applicants will be notified of their application status by the end of May 2013.”

Everyone receives that message. I am a semifinalist and I received this message:

Hello,

Congratulations again on being selected as a semi-finalist to be interviewed for a Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) Scholarship. This year, we received over 2,000 applications and you are one of about 140 who will be interviewed for further consideration. Your academic accomplishments, community service, and potential for success have contributed to your selection as a semi-finalist; and the face-to-face interview is an excellent way for the Regional Scholar Advisory Committee members to get to know you better.

Buttafly13, congrats! Here is what I remember about essay prompts:

What can young people learn & take away from a study of the life of JR?
What do you consider to be the most pressing global issue today & why? How would you use your talents or studies in the future to address these issues? Describe a situation where you assumed leadership position. What made you an effective leader?

Western region. Some people have heard back already, at least those who got in. Has anyone heard anything yet? I feel like the applicants who didn’t get in will only be notified in June.

does anyone know around how many semi finalists they take after the interview? has anyone interviewed already and been chosen to receive the scholarship? someone just called me yesterday to set up an interview (im from california) and i asked when we would know if we were finalists and he said shortly after the interview

I take that back. I was falsely notified that some people were already notified to be winners. However does anyone know exactly how soon the finalist winners are announced following the interview? I’m not sure if the winners are already being called, or if everyone gets notified at the same time within the next few weeks.

If you look at the scholars each year, UCLA historically has the most representation, because UCLA is Jackie Robinson’s alma mater. No fewer than 3 UCLA students have been chosen of the approximately 45-60 scholars each year. For most other schools it is usually only 1 student, 2 for a few.

I’m not going to be a UCLA student but although June 15 is a bit away, it’s closer than it actually seems. We just have to be patient for the results. Stop the worrying. Go have a nice summer. School has already ended or it’s going to end. Plus we’re graduating!!! That’s an achievement by itself.
