James Madison University Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

According to JMU’s website, they had 37,055 applicants for 2022-23, so 50,000 for 2024-25 may not be too far off.

I’d be surprised by 50,000 applicants, but it is possible. JMU had a very good 2023 in terms of national exposure between athletics, attaining a Carnegie R2 Doctoral University classification, jumping from a USNWR regional university to a national university and being named one of 100 schools on TIME magazine’s “Best Colleges for Future Leaders.”

Hi Folks. As a parent of a 2021 and 2023 college grad (VT) I feel your pain and worry. I jumped on here because a friend of mine has a daughter that applied to JMU and I was curious about the word on the street. I wish you all luck and just know it’s going to be great! The harder part is getting a job after you get the degree. Thanks to AI and the fact that every linkedin job is applied to by bots and foreigners and kids hitting 1000 easy applies a day, it’s so hard. My advice: have your future college kids make serious alumni contacts while at school. it’s no joke! my class of 2021 grad applied for 200 jobs on linked in and nothing. Didn’t get a job until a human contact who he already knew reached out to him! luckily the 2023 grad was getting into teaching so not so much an issue. good luck!

Thank you for this! Was your 2021 grad from VT? What major?

Years ago I worked with a head hunter based in a very affluent nyc-commuter town. She told me she hosted some “parties” where all the working moms brought their graduating college kids’ resumes. They passed around the resumes to one another to see if their employers had job openings/fits, and that’s how her son got his first job after college. It always stuck with me, FWIW.

I always recommend joining college alumni groups on LinkedIn and search for companies you want to work for and connect to alumni listed who work there. They are typically very happy to at least reply by email.
I work for a Fortune 100 in NYC and recent grads reach out frequently and I don’t mind a bit having a call or meetin or email to help them out

Thank you for this. My son is a sophomore business major at JMU and is having a tough time finding an internship. I encouraged him also to reach out to his fraternity as well.

So it seems the two highest probability days in the next 5 are today and Tuesday, with it unlikely to be later than Tuesday. My thinking is that Tuesday is more likely than today.

I think I heard last year that there was some notice on IG the day before? I doubt today, also, but yesterday we heard from LSU and Boulder out of the blue so there’s that.

Interesting. I think I saw on here that there was no prior notice last year at least with one of the releases of decisions.

Last year, my son didn’t get an email to check his portal until 1/21. It was posted 1/17.

My friend who’s dtr is a freshman said it was hyped up on IG for the day or two before that decisions were coming…who knows! BTW, she LOVES JMU.

These may be references to different rounds — EA vs RD.

My daughter is VERY active on the JMU IG pages and said she’s expecting they’ll hear 1/23. :woman_shrugging:t4:

I think you’re right. However, we shall be refreshing the portal like psychos nonetheless.

JMU just hired Coach Bob Chesney. He is an amazing coach that took Holy Cross to 5 back to back Patriot League championships. Big loss for Holy Cross (still bitter about this).

Which sport?

Football. Chesney will be replacing Curt Cignetti who left JMU to become the head coach at Indiana.

Cool; thanks. I hope Bob is related to Kenny.
