Ok hopped back on to give these two pieces of advice:. My son is a freshman, and if my daughter gets accepted, I’ve learned this:

if your child gets accepted and they are sure they’re attending, deposit ASAP. When you choose housing in the summer, you get assigned a day/time that is directly tied to when you submit your deposit. BELIEVE ME–you do not want to be last. The good places go, quickly.

Once you know when parent’s weekend is, book a hotel ASAP. Even if you cancel later. There are lots surrounding JMU, but they fill up so quickly once those dates are announced.

Does putting down a deposit immediately (committing) mean the student is less likely to get any merit. This is what I want to know.
Not sure. Gosh, I’d hope not. But we didn’t get any anyway, and my indecisive son decided on JMU literally on April 30 at 11pm.
Hotels are already filling up, and the price has already gone up. Parents Weekend always falls between the last weekend in September and Columbus Day weekend. They announce the date once the football team has finalized its schedule. Many parents book hotels for all 3 weekends, then cancel the 2 that aren’t the right weekend.
This is what I’m saying!!! I took a guess based on 2023 parent weekend dates, and booked for 2024. I hope I’m right?!?!
