James Madison University Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

What she said :point_up_2:t3: plus I believe you need a minimum GPA of 2.7 in the lower level business core courses.

Thank you for this. At some schools if you don’t get a direct admit it’s nearly impossible to get into the Business School. Those schools we cross off our list

Does anybody know when regular decision comes out?

I’ve found threads on reddit saying they’ve come out on March 13 & 14 the last few years.

Mom of 2 Dukes here. The other 2 posters are correct but just thought I’d share the official info from the JMU website about applying to the College of Business. As long as your student maintains the required GPA they are in (unlike a few other majors which require applications and are competitive). Good luck to your son!

We’re going to too. Looking forward to it!

Anyone going to Choices should take the time to tour all of UREC. Even if your child isn’t into working out, there is so much to do in that building. It is the nicest recreational facility they will ever have access to.

Looks like RD is coming out soon based on the instagram
what do we think, Tuesday?

or Wednesday (just because it came out on previous years on Wednesdays).

We went to Choices this weekend, and we were so impressed! JMU really moved up in our minds and we can see why so many kids want to attend.

We missed it unfortunately. Say more about what you liked?

The introduction was in their stadium. They had a fantastic marching band playing and about half the stadium was full, opposite the dais. The mood was celebratory and fun! The university speakers discussed the investment they were making in the university, the career success of the students etc. What wasn’t discussed was different from the last school we went to: JMU admin didn’t mention politics or race or divisions. There were 4 kids on the dais and each were impressive in their own ways, with different majors/schools/career pursuits/backgrounds. Seemed like there was something for everyone.

At the Business session they discussed that the students do not compete against one another for spots in the business school. Maintain the GPA (2.7?) and you’re in.

Afterwards there was ample time to go to the open houses. Engineering was different from most schools in that you don’t have to declare right away, although it’s suggested to start on classes that can work to both bus/engineering if you are thinking you might like either. They had many minors, including one in robotics, which isn’t all that easy to find.

Students said it was standard to graduate in 8 semesters. There weren’t any classes that were so hard they had to take at a different school over the summer. About 40 students to professor, and it seemed easy to work with the professors. No classes were online only. The greek life was there for those who wanted it, but it wasn’t so big you’re left out if you don’t pledge. The girls said they feel safe on campus. Freshman housing was guaranteed, and while a lot move off campus, you can also get housing sophomore year.

The gym was amazing, and there were a lot of clubs that go skiing, rafting, hiking, etc. The campus is pretty and clean. School is big enough to find your group, and not so big that you seem like a # (at least from what we saw in that one day).

Down sides: we didn’t tour the library, but one is under construction for probably another year (?). Students seem to study in different places. For us, the ice rink is 90 min away, and that’s a drag.
HTHs.

Good summary. We were there as well. All the professors, staff and students we interacted with seemed happy and welcoming. A good number of the students/families we interacted with were OOS, mainly from MA, NJ or NC. Grad school is really small (about 2K students) and mostly online so students will be taught by professors vs. grad students for the most part.

Didn’t get to see any of the libraries this time but did the last time we visited (the one on East Campus) and remember it being a nice, well-lit building. The rec center is really nice though
One of the best ones I’ve seen on a college campus.

Does anyone know if JMU releases all admissions on the same day or do they come out in waves?

All on one day, I think it was Thursday March 9th last year. So my money is on today or tomorrow after 2pm.

My son just go his. He was waitlisted.

My daughter got hers. She was waitlisted. a 4.15 GPA, varsity sports all 4 years, job, 5 Honors, one AP, 1 DE. I am sure the fact that her parents have degrees counted against her. unreal.
