James Madison University Early Action for Fall 2025 Admissions

We live in MD and find out UMD tomorrow but if things go the way they seem to be going for in state kids everywhere, she will probably get denied. Seems like most schools are looking more for OOS tuition than anything else.

Thank you for sharing this. JMU is my daughter’s top choice and she was deferred. Her GPA is nowhere near 4.1 but she works hard for the grades that she has and has a strong resume of EC’s. We are OOS and hopeful for an admission in the regular decision but I feel like it is not looking good. I am glad they are encouraging students to withdraw if they aren’t considering JMU, hopefully that opens spots in regular decision that may not have been offered.

Anyone know when and how merit aid offers are communicated?

I think I heard March.

You can save the money and use it for a Master’s at PSU!

So painful waiting, because we know JMU is at the top of our list but we have a spreadsheet of our other schools and while the cost is competitive it would probably tip the scale for us if there is some money associated with the acceptance.

Hi I’ve seen you and others state that JMU is at the top, or near the top, of their college choices. Would you (or anyone else) mind sharing what it is that puts it at the top of your child’s list? The reason I ask is that My D25 got accepted OOS and we’re excited but we haven’t been there and don’t know a ton about the school other than what we read. She’s also considering CofCharleston, Elon and waiting to hear from Clemson, VT, USC and Auburn.

I am pushing JMU more than the others but she is a little enamored with CoC. Thanks for any input.

We have not seen JMU yet. Only reason is we did not have time her junior year to stop in since I am fairly familiar with the school from my college days but it fits the size school we are looking for even-though it doesn’t directly have her major (neuroscience). She will study biology there and it has a concentration in neuroscience and her ultimate goal is to go to med school. Biology is a good degree for applying to medical school. What also sells us is how beautiful the school is and its location it feels safe for our child.

We do want to understand more on the research opportunities since some of the top tier schools have a huge amount of opportunities there and will be critical for helping in getting into medical school. She also does like that they have an opportunity to study at Oxford as a study abroad which is a dream school for her and someday she would like to study in the UK.

We looked at CofC and it was to much of being in a city for us. We didn’t even tour just drove by.

Thank you. We can’t wait to see JMU and it seems that many in the VA area view it as a gem.

We have visited campus twice, once with my oldest in 2022 and now with my current senior. It’s definitely one of my favorites. The buildings are really nice, great rec center. Everyone around campus is so friendly! It seems to have a really inclusive vibe. I really don’t know anyone who visited and didn’t love it. I also like that they offer the exploratory program for students that are undecided.

My daughter is a sophomore at PSU and loves it! It’s a great option to have!

Is merit still pending in March for most? I’ve seen one or two people say they got merit offers. Wondering if JMU sends merit on rolling basis or all at once?

I’m going to guess rolling. @OctoberKate did your son’s Madison award email come from the department head? (Congrats!) That’s how it happened for younger S in 2019. And his came at the end of March. Like the 28-30th of March. So I wonder if it just depends on the departments.

Of course there are other merit awards as well.

The email is signed ā€œThe Scholarship Teamā€. No idea if they are announcing based on major, but in case it’s relevant, he applied as a geography major, which is in the School of Integrated Sciences within the College of Integrated Science and Engineering.

Has anyone gotten Merit decisions?

Deleting because I basically reposted what I already said.

My admit letter says it will be posted end of March

I contacted FA and was told all the merit offers have been sent to EA applicants. So no luck for us unfortunately.
