January 2010 Writing Thread

vlectric,

The sentence needed to address what did the action followed by “by,” and only answer choice E made that clear.

Any consolidated list?

Can someone reexplain the section 10, #9 problem with the “has so… <verb>” and “so… <verb>”?</verb></verb>

And also, there was another problem about the vice president and how he can only vote during a tiebreak - what was the answer to that

@Light Airen

the answer is “so profoundly influenced” which was D

^Do you remember any of the other choices?

are you sure that was number 9?! i thought that was number 13 or something like that!!

also, what number was the beaver question?

soo you guys are agreeing that number 13 and 14 are D and E, not C and A?! =/

for the profoundly influenced question was it originally “blah blah blah has such as a profound influence on blah blah blah”?

anyone have an answer about the 1940s dance one, was the error “thus being” or “predominate”

IAmABeast,

yes, the last two answers were D, E

@Light Airen

the answer choices were like
has a great influence on blahblah
has so great influence on blahblah
has so profoundly influenced
so profoundly influenced
profoundly influenced

it was question#13

and i agree with ^InvisibleMonster

@frzfire129

i think it was thus being… cuz it was placed in a weird place… im not sure… if u remember the sentence i can tell u…

are you guys 100% for both of those answers of D and E… especially the last one, cuz i think number 13 has a bit of a chance for being C, but for the last one, i dont remember exactly the question or the answers… but i was pretty sure of it being A… how positive are you guys?

oh yes, my bad, i meant 14 (was thinking about how it was 10 mins for that section).

So what’s the one about the vice president?

how positive are you guys about those last 2 questions?! how much percent chance is there that it was C for 13 or A for 14?!?!?!?!

@frefire , i put thus being, i think… i dont remember… if u tell me the question, i can tell u for sure

and what nubmer was the BEAVER one?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!? and what was the answer, in terms of what letter?

@whoever asked this lol.

I’m 100% it was thus being. The sentence was something like… blah blah blah is so -a-d-j-e-c-t-i-v-e thus being -a-d-j-e-c-t-i-v-e. For it to make sense, it would have to be blah blah blah is so adjective THAT it is adjective. Additionally, the ETS generally like to stay away from “being” as a correct answer.

yo wasn’t the last sentence on fix the paragraph also about an “agency” ?. i think it said like the agency, along with its corporates, fixed “their” with their being wrong. u guys agree?

how positive are you guys about those last 2 questions?! how much percent chance is there that it was C for 13 or A for 14?!?!?!?!

@frefire , i put thus being, i think… i dont remember… if u tell me the question, i can tell u for sure …

and what nubmer was the BEAVER one?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!? and what was the answer, in terms of what letter?

@IAmABeast,

I’m 99% positive; I’m not 100% because I don’t have the answer key right in front of me. :P

Is it possible to get 1 wrong and a 10 essay and still get 800??

@ sakuraino… probably… or at the least… maybe 780ish…

last time i got minus 3, so -4 raw… and an 11 on the essay… and ended up with a 750… considering that multiple choice has a lot more weight on the score, and essays don’t have too much weight unless you completely bomb it, there is a good chance of scoring 800 if not in the 780ish range
