jas0n's Official UCI Q&A Thread

yeah, most people either have their own printer or share one with their roommate. if you don’t want to bring a printer, then you can print at the libraries or study areas (in student center) with a print card, but you have to pay for the printing card.

I’m currently enrolled in

HUMAN 1A LEC T/Th 09:30-10:20
HUMAN 1A DIS T/Th 12:30-01:50
HUMAN 1A SEM F 11:00-11:50
ANTHRO 2A LEC M/W/F 02:00-02:50
UNI STU 3 SEM M 10:30-11:20
UNI STU 3 SEM W 11:00-11:50

It’s only 14 units, but I’m thinking I want to drop Anthro for another class. Any suggestions? I’m looking at a basic science class or chorus or a film and media studies class, maybe.

If Anthro 2A is with douglas, do NOT drop that class for the love of God.

It was with Egan.

And yeah so I revamped my schedule to add Chorus and 70s American Cinema, so now it’s 16 credits. I’m hoping I’m not shooting myself in the foot…

16 units is an average load for a student. However, it’s your first quarter here. If you’re scared that you’re not prepped for college, I would reduce it a bit. Humanities core is no joke either - it’ll eat your time. It’s a good thing you dropped Anthro 2A with Egan. Anthropology is supposed to be an easy topic, but he definitely gives you a challenge. I took him during my first quarter, and it did not end up pretty.

I think I can handle it and whatnot, I just want to enjoy college too. And yeah, Anthro was like I didn’t know what else to add so I randomly chose it. I’m glad I got you feedback, that helps a lot.

Are we supposed to buy books before school starts or will the professors tell us what to buy when we go to class? Thanks

profs usually talk about it before but you’ll have less than a week to get it.

or you might find out you don’t even need it if its one of those cheap books or study guide or what not

So we shouldn’t pre-reserve our books online now?

Hey. I just found this page and its awesome.

Umm… Could you look at my schedule?

I am majoring in Electrical Engineering.

WRITING 39A FUNDAMENTLS OF COMP
CHEM 1A GENERAL CHEMISTRY lec
CHEM 1A GENERAL CHEMISTRY dis
MATH 2A CALCULUS lec
MATH 2A CALCULUS dis
PHYSICS 2 INTRO MATH METHODS lec
PHYSICS 2 INTRO MATH METHODS tut

Thanks

holy cow…jas0n you are super nice for doing all of this haha
there are 82 pages of …Q&A.
crazyyyy!
props (:

I wouldn’t preregister my books now.

I would order them online or find people to barter with.

The schedule looks good. It’s a very heavy schedule though. If you’re not used to the college life and studying all the time, you might take a huge GPA hit. The EE curriculum has lessened a little from what I’ve seen so you don’t need to rush that much. It might be in your interest to drop a class. If you’re up to a challenge, then do it.

tihung:

Thanks :].

What class do you recommend I drop? I’m thinking chemistry? I don’t see anymore chemistry classes than chemistry 1A.

Thanks for the reply…

dummyyy:

Your typical schedule for fall is not that of a normal student. You have to play a little catch up. I recommend dropping chem 1A. Make sure you get EECS 10 done within your freshman year! Not only is it a pre-req to a course you need to take fall of sophomore year, it’ll give you a (very) little taste of EE. Many people have quit EE merely because of EECS 10. This will help you not waste time.

Hi
I was wondering if you can looking at my schedule and see what you think for a Bio Major. I was originally going ot take HumCore but I drop it so now I am on the waiting list for Writing 39B.

Bio93 with O’dowd and Warrior
Chem1A with Potma
Writing 39B
Math2A

Also I have another question, on the Class of Schedule some of the classes they have not listed who the professors are going to be so I was wondering when they are going to post that or do we have to go to class and find out who our professors are.

And also is it usually better to space out your classes like have some of them on MWF and others are TTh or would it be better to have them all on MWF and have TTh like days off.

Hi, I’m a bio major and I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me
some feedback on my current schedule.

05200 BIO SCI 93 LEC A 4.0 GR
05207 BIO SCI 93 DIS A7 0.0 GR
40030 CHEM 1A LEC C 4.0 GR
40038 CHEM 1A DIS C8 0.0 GR
87670 UNI STU 15A LEC A 5.0 GR
87674 UNI STU 15A DIS 4 0.0 GR

Totals upto 13 units.

I don’t have to take writing39A(exempted from test scores), so I will be taking w39B next qtr, so I would have 17 units in winter(with the writing course). The uni.study 15a course gives me credit for w39c, so I was thinking of taking something in the spring in place of the writing class. Any
suggestions? breadth classes?(would math 2A be okay?)

also, am I being too much of a slacker right now w/ this schedule?- starting
in fall qtr with only 3 courses? I was thinking I’d give myself some time to
adjust to the qtr system and taking 2 science classes at once(which i’ve done before…)

I decided to take chem1a instead of hchem2a, because i got a 3 on the apchem test and even tho i placed into the honors chem from the placement testing, the test was ridiculously easy. I butchered my gpa in highschool by taking multiple aps at the same time, so I thought that it would be better to take the regular course and save the tragedy in college. I heard that the hon.chem professor is really cool, but the series is much more challenging.
was it a good idea to take chem1a instead of the honors?

also, anyone has any headsup about these professors?
-O’Dowd(for biolecture), Aguilar(for biodis.), Borovik(chem), chubb(consciousness).

thanks.

My friend just asked me if I was buying an ‘iclicker’

As a humanities major, I have 2 questions:

what is it?

and

do i need it?

humanities, no.

really? sweet.
