jas0n's Official UCI Q&A Thread

how difficult are bio, chem, ochem courses at uci? Also, you said above that the economics is regarded as an easy major, is that because of requirements or workload or what?

thanks

captainbhangra:

Bio, chem, and ochem courses are considered harder courses. The reason why economics is regarded as an easy major is because it has less requirements than science/engineering, the competition isn’t too fierce, and the subjects aren’t too demanding.

Hey jason,

is it possible that i can sign up for classes EARLIER?!?!?! Is there a way that I can sign up during the first week?!!!?!?1 I already looked up my classes and wrote down everything and scheduled accordingly.

I assume I’m getting the short end of the stick b/c I have freshman standing. T_T

Brando, when is your registration window? Mine is november 25th.

Will I be screwed, or am I good to go, Jason?

wow u guys are lucky my window is Dec. 5th freakin ■■■■■■■■
i think its because i was in spop 7. i better get all my classes at the times i want cuz i got pretty screwed this quarter with earlyass classes

Is it possible to have your enrollment window bumped up? Mine’s currently on December 1st. I have 40.5 units entering UCI and am currently taking 13 in the fall quarter. My friend who is taking the same amount of units as me has his window open nearly 2 weeks earlier.

they said u can drop 6th week with no record of dropping. i dropped. I asked 3 diff people including the guy at the registrar and he said they would no record of you ever taking the class.

Is this true?!!??!?!

steggi, and Brando,

seriously… bumping up enrollment times? you’re kidding, right? you’ll have better enrollment times when you have taken more units. just because you’re ready to enroll this second doesn’t entitle you to bump up your time. as a first year, you getting your classes is not as important as graduating 4th and 5th years getting into their classes… it’s not all about you…

I’m going to just clear up enrollment times here. You can bump it up as you acquire more units. During freshman orientation, your enrollment was based on the time you went to SPOP. Now, it’s all based on a formula which heavily weights units. It also includes other factors such as one’s status (honors/athelete) and major. Honors students (CHP) and atheletes get the FIRST windows for obvious reasons. I’m a junior with senior standing at about 155 units. 1-45 units is a freshman, 46-90 is a sophomore, 91-135 is a junior, 136+ is a senior.

It’s possible, but you need the right people to sign your card.

Is it difficult/very competitive to get into the nursing science major in the college of health sciences? How IS the nursing major at uc irvine anyways? For example, do the students taking this constantly stress about their work? Are the teachers good? Also, do you recommend applying for the nursing major as an incoming freshman or apply for it in your junior year as a transfer to that major since the first two years of college just have classes for general education.

well i already have 7 years work exp. :stuck_out_tongue: im 24 years old and started going to school again… does that change your answer now? lol

iceuhhh:

The nursing major is basically just as competitive as biology. The nursing here should be good since it’s tied in with the rest of the programs here in a similar area. This can only mean you get good quality teaching since we have a well-known biology sector. I would start out as nursing since you can switch out of it later. It’s all the same at the beginning. Just stay in first and transfer out when you feel like it.

But does your work experience have anything to do with your area of interest? If not, it might still be not as great. However, having those 7 years of work experience definitely does help. If you’re short on time, or really want to get done with it, I definitely encourage you to do the 3-2 program. Good luck!

yeah i dont want to wait too long. Its just that i hear UCI’s MBA program isnt the strongest although it is accredited. Yeah my work exp. has a good amount to what i want to do after i graduate. I just couldn’t get a higher position cuz of my education :P

I was thinking of doing the 3-2 and then after graduating with my MBA on pursuing either a 2nd grad degree in Econ from a top notch school like stanford or ivy league or just getting my PhD

Which quarter does most Bio student take Stat or Math 7? I tried to enroll for Winter but it’s reserved for Seniors and it’s already full. Will I be behind if I take it in the spring?

After my enrollment window has closed, how long do I have to wait to change my classes?

sweetdream:

Sorry, I’m not so sure about that. Hopefully a bio major can answer that question. Stat/Math is not important for bio so you can easily put it off.

stegggi:

You can log into webreg after 7pm everyday until the last window finishes its 48 hour opening.

Hi,

I was wondering whether or not the O-chem teachers care about which days students go to the lab lecture or does it have to be on the day registered? Thanks!

hey, i was wondering if anybody has had a g chem lab before, how the lab practical is. im a little bit nervous for it so some advice would really be appreciated! thanks!

ENGR Question MAE (Mechanical/Aerospace)

Apparently I have to do a min of 1 quarter of Chem 1A. I’m in that right now. However, I was totally unaware of a Chem 1LE lab (chem lab for Engr majors only).

During orientation I was told to sign up for Physics 7A w/ Lab, Math, and Chem. I even emailed my adviser over the summer to make sure I was in the right class. (Do you think she forgot to tell me to sign up for 1LE?)

The thing is, the General catalog says that I have Chem 1A first quarter and Chem 1LE second quarter. BUT when I check on WebSOC, it says that I need Chem 1A or 1B as a co-requisite. My adviser advised me on only those 3 classes… I’m meeting with her on wk 10 but she is very backed up in appointments. I seriously don’t want be forced to take Chem 1B JUST so I can satisfy the Chem 1LE requirement for my major. I hate Chem…

^^ im in chem 1LE right now and anybody who is taking 1A or 1B or who has taken any of those classes and is an engineer can take it. o btw chem 1LE really sucks because u do labs from chem 1A-C so its pretty hard. good luck with it
