What happens if you just STAY on the wait list? I really want to switch to Douglas class… they are now 25 ppl on it. Should I go for it???

^^ it would be too late…

hey jas0n, i have a question about the chem lab that u took
were the grades curved? because right now im struggling with it and it seems like my grades are slipping :(

yeah chem lab is curved.

oh hallelujah lol

If it’s gchem lab you are talking about, it’s for sure curved but just be sure to know what you are doing when it comes to the experiments because you don’t want to be the person who doesn’t know what to do during the practical. Some tas are just anal so that might be why you are struggling in lab.

its Chem 1LE
which is technically advanced gchem i guess…

Can someone explain how the Bell curve grading thing works? or is their a different policy for each teacher? also are there A- and A+ … at UCI???

what’s the general curve for ochem at uci?

out of 100, what would you need to get to get at least an A-?

Jinks:

Bell curves usually mean the median or mean grade is a B- (80%). One standard deviation up is the cutoff for A/A-'s and one standard deviation down is the cutoff for anything below a C- (70%). This is how classes usually work in the sciences, and this obviously means A- and A+ do exit. A+'s exit depending on the professor.

corporateflea:

You need to be the top 17% to get an A/A- in a typical curve in the sciences. It varies too much to put a number to it.

how good can they get? like a 50 percent is the mean? does that happen?

edit:
Also is their any advantage to Human core such as applying to grad school or med school? Also same question for the CHP thing any advantage to it?

@Jinks: See for yourself Pick-A-Prof.

The advantage is that you get to take more classes related to your major by having GE out of the way. I only know that a good CHP advantage is networking.

@Zairari

cool website but how is the population of the UCI students on that website, also in terms of privacy how is it?

For ochem, just pray the average is low (like 40s) and then average around 60% on your tests and you will get at least an A- in the class. But then I take it that you are taking it on sequence right now so I doubt the average will be in the 40s since it will be quite competitive when its on sequence.

I’m transferring into UCI Winter 09 and I need to take a placement exam for Japanese. The highest you can test into is Japanese 3A, but I heard they only offer that course during Fall. Is there any chance I can get into Japanese 3B during Winter session?

It’ll really depend on your instructor or the department. If it’s anything like the Korean language department, they’ll understand your situation, but you may have to do more testing to show them you’re capable of 3B.

I signed my TAG for Irvine for fall '09. IM going to be doing the 3-2 accelerated program (BA in Biz Econ) and my MBA, so i have to finish the biz econ courses by the end of my junior year. In order to do that, i need to take some classes before then to be able to finish. I want take Math 4 for economists as an extension student. Can i get into this class? Is it wise? i just want to be able to get my MBA within 3 years of transferring.

Thx!

do you know if irvine has a good economics program? if it has… is it hard?
also… are transfer students allow to live in dorms? thankss!

Can i drop my Anthro 2A class and take it in winter?!?!?! or is is too late to drop?!?!?!

Vyruz:

I recommend you not do the 3-2 because you’ll be leaving the MBA school without any work experience. An MBA holder without any work experience is plain awkward. Taking Math 4 as an extension is fine. It’s math dumbed down for economics students.

cerealitas:

Irvine has a decent enough program. The economics program here at UCI is considered to be one of the easiest majors on campus. Transfers can only live in on-campus apartments, not dorms.

If you can get the right signatures, I think Friday of week 6 (this week) is the last day to drop without a W. It’s VERY unlikely you can drop it with the red tape involved.
