Salutations!

I am currently in 7th grade and I want to attend a prestigious university. I will be applying to TJ and other amazing secondary schools in Northern Virginia. I want to be a Jefferson scholar at UVA. What are somethings I can do throughout high school to make my dream a reality? (Classes, summer programs research opportunities etc.)

Get off this site immediately, go do what interests you most, and do it very well. Come back in 3-4 years, and make sure to enjoy yourself.

If you go to TJHSST it’s nearly impossible to become a Jefferson Scholar. That’s because each high school only gets one nomination so to win the nomination for TJHSST you have to commit to going to UVa and be the person they select who commits.

You have 6 years to go before applying to college; you will drastically develop over this time. To make those developments in your best interest, start living and thinking. That is, in general, what you should be after, and that will give you the best college resume and life. Don’t fall in love with colleges; don’t get involved in the cults of neuroticism and obsession on this site. It is easy to project your infatuations and preconceptions of the college onto your own character and forget who you are, and in that state you will be making barely any progress at all towards your dreams. There are many things in the world to contribute to fulfillment other than the University of Virginia; believing that UVA is the only thing is unhealthy. Keep learning, and remember that education isn’t synonymous to learning and understanding.

Regarding getting into UVA: have a genuine character and intelligence and use it to excel in the areas that colleges consider like grades and tests and provide evidence that you do things other than go home after school and touch yourself for hours. The most effective is proliferation to some extent in a passionate and well-regarded interest (art, science, social leadership, etc.). Now get off this site and start living and thinking (I will do the same now, too…)
