Has anyone else had their regional interviews? I had mine a few weeks ago and one of the questions they asked included: What bad leadership choice have you made in the past and how would you deal differently. The question completely threw me off! I was able to answer it but I just feel like this question was meant purely to create some sort of hesitation/unrest in the applicant- how does the applicant answer: keep it not-so-serious… serious… ?

Coffeeaddict—My son will have his 2nd interview this weekend with the regional committee. Any other tips you can give would be appreciated…also when do you find out who is chosen to go to campus in March?

I’m sorry that this is might be too late for some of you, but here’s my advice. Be familiar with what you wrote in your application and review it. You will be asked about what you wrote and in some cases may have to defend it. Know about current events and cultural flashpoints and have a clear explanation what you believe in. It doesn’t matter if you’re a conservative or a liberal. You just need to be concise, clear and be able to give well thought-through responses. Plus, know how to sell yourself and show the committee how UVa would benefit from you as a Jefferson Scholar.

My son just got back from his regional interview in front of a panel of 6. He said they each had his application in front of them so that was the basis of the interview. They also asked one question about democracy and capitalism, and one question about globalization. Then the questions focused more on future plans—what kinds of extracurriculars will you explore at UVA? What career plans? Lasted about 20 minutes in all.
