Jeopardy and James Holzhauer, anyone watching?

Going into the tournament, Brad was my favorite; but Ken has been really funny (his “I, too, reek of horse turds and super-Norwegianism,” cracked me up). And I like James, too.

I don’t care who wins. I just want it to continue for as many nights as possible because they are a lot of fun to watch.

@Nhatrang - the Washington Post has an interesting article about the Palestine/Israel controversy:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/01/13/jeopardy-bethlehem-church/

According to the article, contestant Katie Needle, who got the question wrong (or did she?) spent time last year in a Palestinian refugee camp in Bethlehem.

The Washington Post article points out that UNESCO lists the church as located in Palestine:

Team James. He’s funny, bold, and a little edgy - not to mention very very smart. He and Ken have been going at it on Twitter. James and his wife have been very generous with various charities in the Las Vegas area. No matter who wins, I’ll be sad when the tournament is over.

I heard a theory on the radio this morning that fKen will be the new host. when Alex Trebek retires. Just a rumor, but makes a lot of sense to me.

I am Team Ken!

I am team Ken - I am one of those who never liked James. I think Ken might be a good new host - he certainly knows the game well.

Not sure Ken would be a good host. James would be worst. I think Brad could be a good host. Tough act to follow though in terms of Alex.

Wowsa. It never occurred to me that this championship could be a recruiting event for the next host. Great idea.

I am going to miss it tonight (and not recording it). I also like Ken. James’ smile gives me the willies. Its just kinda creepy. Hadn’t considers the replacement host idea. Thats interesting.

It is so good. I’ll miss it.

None of these contestants could be the host. A contestant can’t appear on the show if they know anyone who works at Sony Studios. So, for instance, if Ken was hosting, neither James nor Brad (or many others) could be on the show because they “know” the host. Jeopardy isn’t going to risk not being able to use these big guns in future tournaments.

Yay Ken!!!

I’m not watching, but I’m team Ken!

James’ statement at the beginning of the second game tonight (when the scores from the first game for each player were shown and then taken away for the second game to start) to the effect “Hey, Brad’s score is still up there (Brad had 0 in the first game)” had an element of cruelty to it. Was said in jest but at that point, I am sure Brad felt horrible (though he never let it show) about how he did in the tournament.

James’ statement that Trump and Ken had won the same number of Jeopardy tournaments was cruel too. Unless Ken won this tournament (which he ulitmately did).

Congrats to Ken. He performed incredibly well. Risked big and got the questions right. His last daily double was the only one in the entire tournament without a max bet (and he even made a statement about that). James had a chance to win the match but missed the last question. Would have been fun to see another match tomorrow with Ken and James tied. Next time?

Is there anything that Ken doesn’t know? I was amazed at his mastery of obscure facts! And I’m disappointed in James. Even I got Iago. LOL

Congrats Ken!

I was pretty sure he was going to win tonight because, as I mentioned in post #463, there was a spoiler which I can now share without spoiling anything.

At the end of the first commercial break (12 minutes in) during last Wednesday’s show, they advertised ABC’s Wed night line-up of The Goldbergs, Schooled, Modern Family, and Family Night and stated:

“All new episodes will return next Wed (graphic showed 8:00 start time).”

This implied that there would be a winner in 4 matches (Tues, Wed, Thurs, Tues). So I knew when Ken won on Thursday that he would win the championship tonight. This reinforced an earlier spoiler I stumbled upon last week when adding the GOAT Tournament to my library on YouTube TV which showed that only 4 episodes would air (Tues, Wed, Thurs, Tues).

I wish it had gone the distance.

Just another example among many that cause me to dislike him. He’s always come across to me as the guy who thought he was so funny but was really a jerk.

I’m very glad Ken won.

I really enjoyed watching this while it lasted. I thought back to the beginning when Brad mentioned wishing he’d spent more time practicing with the buzzer - you could really see just how quick James and Ken were, but even Ken was frustrated many times! While there’s no rule you have to be nice to play Jeopardy, I was disappointed and surprised with James’ snarky comments last night, there was no need for them. I was glad to see Ken finally take home a tournament win - I think he had really prepared for it.

Well I felt James showed his snarkiness lat night, which is why I never liked him. He made a comment on one of the felt shows about having scoped out his competition in preparation for the tournament. A gambler’s approach to a game. There was nothing to learn about them, as seasoned players they were going to bet it all on every daily double and not play down a category.

Brad was probably slowest on the buzzer which really hurt him, but he kept on getting daily doubles and not knowing the answer. I don’t think Ken missed very many answers throughout the entire tournament.

I would have liked to see Brad take a game before Ken became the champ, but I wasn’t prepared for snarky James to win another. I thought it would be over before Thursday because my DVR schedule was saving a place for Grey’s Anatomy on Saturday at 1 am and it didn’t seem possible that a new episode of this show after winter break would be airing in the middle of the night. So glad for Ken to take this title - he is a classy guy.

It seemed that from the start Brad was just going through the motions. His mental abilities couldn’t have deteriorated that much!
