Another impressive match for Ken. Brad was more competitive tonight but still ended up in third. I liked that James made the shoutout to Alex in the second final jeopardy question (and brought in Pat Sajak). That all 3 of them missed the second final question didn’t matter (because of the cumulative score potentials) but would have been interesting if Brad or James had been in striking distance of Ken. Ken likely would have risked at least one point more than he needed to assure a win if he got the question right but had Brad/James risked nothing they could have slipped in with the win. James seems to like to bet it all in those circumstances though.
I believe all double jeopardy bets have been the max (Ken seems most uncomfortable doing that but has been very successful and Brad continues to miss too many of those though he does get his share of chances on them). Influence of James on the tournament (in his interview piece tonight he said he thought an advantage for him may be that the other contestants were not willing to bet it all but that has not been the case–though Brad probably wishes he would have bet less).
Pressure on Brad and James tomorrow to extend the tournament at least another day.
Another fun night of competition! It was looking like James would have a chance to make up some ground when he hit the Daily Double in the second game. But it was not to be, as it seems he missed an important part of the clue - “The color pairs with gold as an official one for Florida State.” - and guessed diamond rather than garnet for “The birthstone used in abrasives for polishing and grinding.”
It was funny when Brad uncovered the final Daily Double in the 2nd game, looked at Ken, and said, “You’re welcome.” That locked up the win for Ken.
We’ll have a little break while we wait for the next episode which will air on Tuesday night.
Back at it tonight. Does Ken wrap it up tonight? Does James even up matches? Or does Brad finally get on the board?
Tournament has brought in casual and new Jeopardy fans. I know several people who pretty much never watch Jeopardy who are no glued to their TVs. Ratings have been good for tournament so far. Seen talk they people are trying to get Ken, James and Brad together again in some format.
Is there a “favorite” ? Are people “rooting for” one particular contestant? Ken is in the lead, but is he who many are rooting for, or are people wanting to see James even the score, or, perhaps hope Brad wins one?
Personally, I would hate to see Brad get skunked even though I didn’t know a thing about him before the tournament. I tend to root for the underdog. There’s something about James that I’ve never liked so I hope Ken wins it all.
I thought it would come down to Brad and James. Brad had never lost (including beating Ken in tournaments). James was the latest and greatest in terms of his dominance when he was on the regular show. And he changed how the game is played (at least at this level). I believe that all daily doubles in the tournament so far have been max bets. That didn’t happen before James. Ken’s max bet in the final in the first game of match 3 was against conventional wisdom with a big lead going into final of a 2-day match for Jeopardy. Until James. And that bet essentially won Ken match 3.
I hope it goes 7. Looked forward to the tournament since the day it was announced. Felt like it was Super Bowl Sunday (and I am not really a super bowl fan) driving home from work last Tuesday. Having a winner take all match 7 would be awesome (at least to me). Not sure it goes there though. Ken is the Jeopardy champ most fans of the show point to. James is where you seem to go if you are a newer fan of the show. Brad is the biggest “unknown” champ. I don’t care that much who wins (just have more shows). Pulling a little for Ken because he was never won a tournament.
