Jeopardy's Alex Trebek health

@toledo I am sorry to hear about your friend. It is a horrible, sneaky, relentless beast.

And we spend time debating relative eliteness rankings and lifetime outcomes of colleges.

The story of the gentleman who spent time with his children and using his three years well is a valuable lesson indeed.

My urologist found what was thought to be a 5 mm pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor as a secondary finding on a CT scan last October. Had an endoscopic ultrasound in Nov and the doc couldn’t find anything. Went for follow up and he told me he’ll send it to the consult board, but he’s sure the radiologist “over read” the original CT.

Consult board/two more radiologists in March said yes, there is a tumor. Doc referred me to JHU to a more experienced doc. Second CT confirmed tumor. Second endoscopy showed tumor is definitely there, still 5mm, but looks benign. She couldn’t biopsy because it’s in a difficult place, but says it doesn’t look/behave like it’s trouble. We’ll test again in a year. Also have early chronic pancreatitis and a hiatal hernia. Took six freaking months to rule out pancreatic cancer.

I will say that the possibility of pancreatic cancer terrified and freaked me out in ways that my leukemia and cardiac arrest NEVER did. It is vicious beyond description and treatment has limited effectiveness. My fervent hope is that better treatment and a path to long-term survival is on the horizon.

When I heard the news I was thrilled for him!

@CountingDown I’m so sorry you went through this long torture of waiting for a diagnosis. Thank goodness it appears benign. Hopefully the worrying you went through will be the only ill effect that it ever causes. I hope you can regain your peace of mind now. I know it is like a seesaw of emotions.

@CountingDown that’s so traumatic! I’m so sorry you went through all of that.

Alex has had a setback. I’m so sad…

This makes me so sad.

I watched the story from one of the morning shows just now that a friend who has cancer posted. You can tell he is being very, very honest. And in that honesty, he is teaching those that watch so very much. <3 Best to him and his family.

I’m so sad for him. And Cokie Roberts…she was such an inspiration.

I’m so sad for Alex and his family. He seemed so hopeful just a few weeks ago, but he always knew what the odds were.

I’ve watched all the episodes of the new season and also feel sad. The current champion has won $356,000 so far (seventh best ever)! He’s not impressive as James, of course, but he’s doing OK for himself.

Very sad to see Alex’s announcement. Thank you for posting.

@CountingDown , so very sorry to hear what you’ve gone through and I hope good news continues.

The new champion is a math teacher from D2’s small prep school. He didn’t start teaching there until after she had graduated so she never had for a class with him, but her BF, who used to be teacher at the same school, knows him.

ABC’s Good Morning America aired another segment of the Trebek story. They are currently filming the Tournament of Champions. James Holtzhauer was there and he said they were told about Alex’ condition shortly before they started filming. He said it made it difficult to focus on playing the game.

@CountingDown , I am on vacation and missed the news about Cokie Roberts. That is very sad. I always wanted to draft her for president! She was so smart and personable.

Very sad to hear about Alex’s health challenges. Our daughter appeared on Jeopardy in 2012, and we watched the show being filmed. HE was even nicer in studio than on show… chats with the audience between “shows” (5 recorded per day).

I noticed this sad update on CNN today.

Mr. Trebek stated that he would continue doing the show as long as his skills didn’t diminish, and he felt that they had.

?

Oh, gosh, that’s rough.
