JES finalist thread!

Hej everyone!

I just got my letter today - major w00tage! I’m seriously shivering in excitement; this was such a wonderful way to end a day that was entirely too glum.

To travel all the way from New York to California, for my first time no less. And to meet amazing women from all over the country! It’s gonna be so much fun, I can’t wait!

Good luck to those who are still waiting! Meeeeeep this is so exciting. :D

Congrats PeacenikPie.

We’re still holding our breaths up here in Massachusetts, and boy are we getting blue!

Maybe tomorrow

I received my letter today (west coast), and wasn’t chosen as a finalist.

“This letter is honestly sent with some measure of pain… we hope to be able to offer you admission in late March…” A bit dissapointing, unfortunately.

But congratulations to those who have received a congratulatory letter, and best of luck to the rest.

Me neither. Too bad, cause that pretty much rules it out for me (I live EC, can’t visit and can’t really afford all that flying, though i’d do it if I had to) and I really liked the sound of it!:frowning:
But super-congrats to those who made it, and good luck!

Gracie, I received the same letter. I saw the “thin envelope” and knew what it was right away…but turns out that I could have been wrong, since the congrats letters were also thin?

Well, onto scheduling an interview, according to the letter! I hope it’s not too late to do so?

Hey girls…keep your spirits up! Though the JES would be a nice chunk of change it’s certainly not the end of your stories. Scripps may come through for you in another way. Keep the faith!

I just got my letter and I’m EC. I was just wondering if anyone who has qualified for this in the past could tell us a little bit about how the weekend is structured? Is it primarily interviews with admissions, professors, students, etc, or more focused on helping you get to know Scripps? Any info would be great! Thanks.

Here’s a thread from two years ago…
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/scripps-college/148390-jes-weekend-feedback.html

Hi this is gonna sound dumb but im applying to scripps next year and what is this JES finalist stuff you’re talking about?

I’m a finalist!! I’m so looking forward to meeting you all at Scripps weekend. :D

Thanks! Looking forward to meeting everyone in February!

lalala91 - see this web page for info on JES.

It is their merit scholarship, not need based scholarship.

sigh… D got mail, finally, in snowstorm. Not a finalist. But still stoked about Scripps…

Good luck to all!

D got a letter today saying she didn’t make the JES competition. We live in the midwest. She is an NMSF, 4.0, 35 ACT, goes to an Alernative HS. Guess the competition is pretty stiff. Good luck to those that are in and still waiting to hear.

Hey, just out of curiosity, for the people who got in, what were your stats?? and Congrats!!! :D

mommlc - that is surprising your daughter didn’t make it with those stats.
All I can say is, based on last year, that some people with lower stats may have had counselor and teacher recs that made them seem like saints.
That and some others may have had stats, special talents and ECs that put them above the rest.

My daughter didn’t make JES finalist last year either but she is going to Scripps and after the first semester we agree that is it the best place for her.
It just would have may it even better to have 1/2 tuition JES for 4 years.

Can anyone who got a JES scholarship for Scripps or anyone with primary knowledge of Scripps please PM me?

I am very fond and interested in this college.

My d has been raving about Scripps ever since she got back home yesterday from the JES weekend. Scripps seems to have done a great job at putting together a weekend that makes prospective students want to come!

D says the atmosphere was rather laid back, but very interesting. She was especially impressed with the JES finalists. She figured they would be academically and personally impressive (and they were!), but she was surprised at how nice and how much fun the students were…

She doesn’t have much confidence in getting the JES award, but feels like she “won” something anyway – a great weekend! Since she had never been to southern California, it was a great (albeit very brief) experience. It definitely has her thinking more specifically about Scripps.

I agree about the weekends really selling the school. My D was not in contention for the JES, but she was invited for a different weekend. She had never HEARD of the school before the invite, but it’s been number one for the last six or more months, in spite of other weekends, visits, and much scholarship money from other schools. They sure know what they are doing if they can get me to pony up full tution ! ( Probably won’t but it will be hard to say no…)

Same here, Shrinkrap. I doubt D will go to Scripps w/o the scholarship as she has also been offered scholarship money at other schools. If she were to get money from Scripps, however, it would be very, very tempting…
