JES finalist thread!

Mattice,

just curious, did they say how many applicants were invited to JES weekend and how many out of those usually get the scholarship. I know the number of them went down last year from around 40 to 25, but I’m wondering if it is because less applicants who were awarded the scholarship matriculated.
The 25 number is how many matriculated this year.

I’m pretty sure the number they give is close to 60. I suppose only 25 matriculated last year?

JESS Weekend was absolutely amazing. Scripps is definitely one of, if not the top choice for me now. I feel like I’ve found the perfect college!

There were about 120 girls there last weekend and we were told that 40-45 half-tuition scholarships would be given out and two full tuition scholarships (with room & board & airfare $, etc.).

i agree… when i visited scripps it really hit me that it was the perfect place.
its too bad they only give around 40 scholarships because i know i cant go if i dont get any $$ from them :(

no, they told us that between 25 and 40 enroll, so the number they give out is…probably slightly high than 40, I hope!

oh well thats good news to everyone who got selected to be a finalist
i wasnt selected myself, but i applaud everyone who was because i worked my booty off in highschool so i can imagine the work you did lol!

by the way, how was the weekend on campus, for everyone who went?

I would not worry too much about not getting the JES, although it is a great honor. My d applied for it last year, did not make the cut but we received a good financial aid package and the scholarship made it doable for us. She is a very happy freshman. So, there are other paths to Scripps other than through JES. Good luck to all.

momgeh is there non-need based money besides the JES?

Apparently we get our results mailed out on the 21st! Which is tomorrow. Eek. Good luck, all! :)

Hey, there, that’s good news (I hope). What’s your source, heerotherwizard?

Oops, my bad. It’s the 25th, based on my hope-you-had-a-good-time-at-Scripps letter. :)

Last year (2007) I think they mailed them out on Friday March 23rd.
Some of the applicants near Los Angeles got theirs on Sat the 24th.
We live in SoCal, but not that close to LA, and my daughter got hers on Monday the 26th.
Good luck to everyone!

Someone else had told me the 21st too but your source seems official…darn. The 25th seems so far away still…I don’t want to waiiiiit, but yet I must. So northern CA will probably get them on the 27th or 28th?

how long do you think it would take to reach the east coast?

I actually received my letter today, the 21st. It came in like a FedEx or UPS envelope packet instead of through the USPS. I’m in NorCal, so I’m assuming that other Californians will get their letters soon, too.

Ooh, cool, milquetoasty! Now I’m all excited! D’you think you’ll end up at Scripps?

Oh wow…This is exciting!

Has anyone else heard besides milquetoasty? I’m getting so nervous, haha.

@ heerothewizard: I will probably definitely go to Scripps since I got a scholarship, which certainly makes the decisions easier. :)

Hopefully everyone else will get good-news letters soon, too!

congratulations milquetoasty!!

I didn’t get anything today. I live in WA, so there’s a good chance it’ll be here tomorrow…oh god, i’m so nervous
