Johns Hopkins 2024 RD/Deferred Applicants Discussion

Son was rejected. 4.08 weighted, 35 ACT. OOS - VA (Fairfax Cty). Eagle Scout. Dad is employed by JHU, so we were disappointed… oh, well… wasn’t his top choice.

@TANVI2002
Hi – Looking at JHU’s March 2019 for Class of 2023 RD announcement, it says 2,309 were invited out of a pool of 30,163 regular decision applicants, with an acceptance rate of 7.7%. The 2024 announcement says 1,922 were invited out of 27,256 – based on those numbers that’s a slightly lower acceptance rate. There were also more ED acceptances out of a larger ED applicant pool for 2024.

During this COVID-19 crisis, Hopkins has once again proved themselves as country’s most reliable authority on healthcare and medical education. I think more accepted students would enroll now then ever before.

@throwaway0324 FYI, JHU’s ED announcement contained similar brief summaries of ED student accomplishments, one of which sounded very like DD but probably was not (we met another student during on-campus ED visit day who was likely the one described). In any event, congratulations on your achievement, some school will be lucky to have you – wishing you the best.

@capcase I was on this thread prior to your comment, so I am not stalking you. The message that I have been trying to convey to is that if you get rejected by a school, you don’t have to go out of your way to trash it. Considering the fact that you applied to WashU and JHU would signify that you liked something about each school. I doubt that many people would spend $75 dollars for an application fee if they had no intention, whatsoever, to attend the school they are applying to.

A little late but I figured I’d post my stats/decision for the later kiddos
Rejected to BME
OOS (TN), Female, White
ACT 34/36 superscore
GPA 3.85/4.35 weighted

@thatpianogirl Ikr!!! I’d taken so many L’s before that. I was so surprised at got in tbh, and then seeing that I got merit money just took it to the next level.
I assume you’ve joined the hodson groupme by now?

@throwaway0324 BRUH. That suckkks. I didn’t get in either so i guess we are still twinning

@macroraptor twins!

Hi All - Congratulations! on your acceptance to Johns Hopkins.

My child also was waitlisted by Johns Hopkins for BME
My child has -
4.0 uw/4.8w,
11 APs,
top 1%,
SAT II’s all, 800,
ACT 36.

Maybe certain specialities are competitive and its harder to get into these since there are more candidates than seats!

Does anybody know where to send/upload the LOCI? As far as I can tell, there’s no place to upload on the portal, but the website says that admissions counselors are unable to accept admissions materials directly.

@mwell294 I emailed my AO and she responded

I emailed my AO and she didn’t respond so I don’t know what to think about that.

I think I found it. The website says, “If you are submitting application materials, please address them to the Application Coordinator (see Contact Information), rather than to your regional counselor. Admissions counselors are unable to accept application materials directly.” So I believe you email applyhelp@jhu.edu. Thanks for the help!

https://apply.jhu.edu/meet-the-staff/

my decision letter said “We also encourage you to contact your regional counselor who can update your file with new information about activities and achievements that might be helpful to the admissions committee.”

Got in! Electrical and Computer Engineering
Congrats everyone!

@Vicky2019 so if you don’t get into a special program like the BME you are completely rejected from the school as a whole? I know some colleges would just put you in the regular school. Oh that’s sad because D21 wants BME. Humm. Now she may need to rethink this.

I wish we had more clarity into college admission process. My S didn’t want to apply ED. He was not into competitive sports. If he had either of these, i believe his results would be different!

He didn’t apply to Ivy’s but he applied & got waitlisted by Northwestern, Duke and Johns Hopkins - three of T10 schools and also from WashU (T20).

He got accepted to Georgetown premed/Early assurance though!

Lesson learnt - If u have a favorite school, ED to it. If you are not sure and cannot commit, be prepared to be surprised!

@Vicky2019 Georgetown is also D21 top choice school. She will also be PreMed. Please let me know where he decides to go especially if it’s GT.

@EGHopeful – At JHU, if you apply to BME and don’t get into BME you can still get into the school. They first admit to the school and then send the names of admitted students to BME. BME then picks whom they will admit. BUT, if you don’t get into BME, you can still go to Hopkins and major in anything else you want. I am happy to answer other questions about BME. It’s a great program.
