yep niteofthebrown, that’s def. what i put for the contradiction one

Yeah I put that they shouldn’t be in the news. I felt bad for Dr. Dong; they made her the scapegoat. Lol

the drug testing at the university choice sounds very similar - maybe you guys are just forgetting that the choice had the word “initially” in it b/c I specifically remember that

for the speech SC question, wasn’t the answer “endearing” ?

I thought “impassioned” felt out of context. : /

I put “endearing.” It seemed heartfelt.

^that was a tough one i put impassion because impassion=fervent (it said the audience was fervent), endearing has similar meaning but it doesnt mean ardor or fervent.

It was more about audience = intense emotion (fevernt), so it was impassioned, endearing doesnt exactly mean that (ti measn lovable but not emotionally felt)

Huh what was the one about news?

I remember that as a choice but i dont think i put that as an answer

I think it was the question after “urgent”

and it was like “what does passage 1 think the unverisities should do so that coroporations not bias them”

I put something like they should not let corporations influence their decisions?
Not anything about news/media?

erm I put impassioned, but I think it was a toss up between endearing and impassioned for me. I vaguely remember the rest of the sentence going something like: “…; the amount of emotion [something something something] convinced her peers [?]”. Obviously, I’m not sure and I could just be making it up subconsciously to fit my answer x_x

endearing affects other people, whereas impassioned is for an individual.

I think thats the difference between the two words.

OHO I REMEMBER. It was something like “In context [or consider] of ___ lines, what should universities do to protect their research/gains” (like what cricket has up there)

The answer was that universities should limit corporations’ rights on their published research, or something along those lines.

Esplin, I agree.

^ So wouldn’t that imply endearing was correct? I put endearing but after the fact am kind of convinced that impassioned is correct because impassioned is a much closer match to fervent than endearing is. Endearing has a calm/loving connotation (I think of a new born baby haha) while impassioned has a chaotic, passionate, fervent connotation. So I don’t really know

Edit: I think it’s impassioned.

Impassion–verb (used with object)
to fill, or affect strongly, with intense feeling or passion; inflame; excite.

I was stuck b/w the two. Lol impassioned sounded so much like a romance novel to me. I just felt like the speech was heartfelt and not Hitler-ish lol. I think that what Esplin was saying that impassioned would only have an impact on the speaker but endearing would have an impact on the audience. Then again, fervent=impassioned, perhaps, it was a synonym trick.

90 percent sure that impassioned is correct…the even the CB wouldnt put such a great answer on there just to trick ppl

Yeah I was stuck between the 2 also but mostly because I thought “impassioned” was a kind of faux-ami, like a “too easy” answer thrown in to trick us. I mean endearing definitely fits too, but I have a feeling I got that one wrong. Oh well!

Idk if this has already been discussed but does anyone remember the different answer choices for the virus SC? How would “deleterious” be wrong (harmful)? Unless I’m remembering an answer to a different question.

unless it was a hard question …

its was protean because the passage said viruses were bad bc they could change forms all the time and thts wat protean means = D

^Thanks! Gosh, I hate some of these answer choices. So frustrating…

Esplin-

Ya, but endearing
- Is too moderate…it both connotes and denotes moderate affection (see dictionary.com)
- I remember it saying that the “fervent speaker was so ___________ that his audience all accepted his views or something yahda yahda yahda”

and fervent=impassioned

It was protean. Grr I think I put that or virulent. One of the two.

oo wasnt that one the one about the virus being untraceable when entering the body?
i picked benign
was i wrong?
