June 2010: Math II

Keasby, I confirm 2x^2*sqrt(1 - x^4)
It checks out on the calculator.

for the average speed one 60mph and 40mph, it was exactly 50 because it traveled the same distance?

Yea I got 2x^2*sqrt(1 - x^4) too.

…What? 1/g(x) is a reciprocal, not an inverse. HUGE difference. At x = 3, the graph hits a vertical asymptote because you have a non-removable discontinuity (the discontinuity, 1/0, is determinate, meaning that an asymptote exists).

superexcited, that problem didn’t ask for the inverse, but the reciprocal.

the question that had a triangle and then two equal angles in them, what was that?
i said

A which I think it was Sin 2 theta.

Stonesn - I got less than 50 mph, because you traveled at 40 mph at a longer time, and average speed is (total distance/total time).

Yeah, keaseby, I drew a triangle with x^2 as the opposite and 1 as the hypotenuse. Then I used the double angle formula for sin. 2sin(t)cos(t)

If it is 1/0 then how is f(x)=0?? wouldn’t f(x)=undefined since 1/0 is undefined.

it was asking for g(x), not f(x)

was the last one D
because i made a random guess and idr what D said

It was 2sin(theta), not sin(2theta)

The problem didn’t ask for the point where f(x) = 0, I’m almost positive. If I’m wrong, then whoops. But the problem certainly did not ask for an inverse.

for the line AB, what was the answer, it was with 2 theta. plus was the parametric equation: 1/3 or 1/2. tHANKS!

thisisauser: yea i think you’re right.
that was option A right?

So wait was there two answer choices like “less than 50” and “equals 50” or was it the same choice.

FEW!! I put 0 even though I misread the question that it was asking for f(x)

Malfunction - There were two choices.

so, the g(x) one was 2…?
AHHH.

I got 12, how does 10 work ?
