***June 2014 SAT (US ONLY)***

Can someone link the google doc?

Got a 720 on math which is 50 points higher than last time. But I’m still coming away disappointed. I was absolutely sure I was going to get a 780 and that the lowest I could get was a 750. Sigh. Oh well. Hope GA Tech or UT Austin is still in reach.

I personally believe that you don’t need to have a $3000 prep course to have a great score. My family comes from a low economic background and all I had to study was one book that was given to me as a present, an old 2006 SAT College Board Prep Book. I studied the thing inside and out. When I took the first test, I got a 2170. Not bad for a URM, but I knew that if I really wanted to look at competitively I would have to break 2200. I studied the same book over and over again. This time I was able to jump my ultimate composite to a 2250. Just know guys that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and if you don’t have the money, it doesn’t mean your chances are ruined. You still got a chance.

Yes it is important to have a positive outlook but it may take some time for me to look past my score and get back on the mindset of achieving my dream score, thank god this isn’t the end of the road for me and I still have a third chance. Also yes you don’t need to spend that much money to get a good score but for my first time I had a tutor and I did ok 2090 and this time I didn’t have a tutor but I studied endlessly with multiple prep books inside out and my score dropped. I hate spending money but I feel like I have no option right now. I’m absolutely beaten.

For those who got amazing scores, and are still here to comfort others and give advice, you guys are the real MVP’s thank you so much

@scarlettlovesivy I completely understand where you are coming from. When doing practice tests for my ACT, my score kept going down and down. I felt completely hopeless and that I really don’t have a control over the score I got in the end, but I just want to let you know that you do and I hope you don’t give up. Sometimes, we think certain studying habits are best for us when they’re not. I thought that studying 24/7 would bring me to a higher score but in reality it was better if I did it every other day in intervals. Everyone has their own techniques, perhaps you could follow the same schedule that your tutor used but without the tutor. Know that I know exactly where you are coming from and I am positive that you can achieve your dream score. Don’t beat yourself up too much about this score, the only reason as to why it could have happened is because there is something greater in store for you. Also, I’m super proud that you’re able to jump back on the horse after this, most people hide in dark corners but the fact that you are looking at that this isn’t the end of the road for you is amazing. In my opinion, I think you’re pretty amazing.

I really wanted a 2300+ and I got a 2280 but it was my third time…idk what to do life

My goal was a 2100 and I got a 2140 so I’m pretty stoked!

660- CR
680- M
800- W

Unfortunately, I don’t believe that my CR+M Composite will be good enough for Vanderbilt… :frowning:

@fcallicotte I think your message just made my day, and that’s saying a lot considering this is one of the darkest days of my life. I’m going to try out a different technique and try to find a new study habit, one that might actually work. Seriously, it feels so good to know that you understand what I’m saying. Ii really hope you’re right and that I can achieve my score. And, yeah this morning I felt like my life was coming to and end, but I just realized this isn’t the end. Wow, thank you so much though, I think you’re incredibly amazing

@scarlettlovesivy I’m so happy that you are feeling better!! I wish you the best of luck with your third time, I have no doubt that you can do it :)

@fcallicotte You’re literally the best  Thank you! I’ll work hard and hopefully can come out to tell you and everyone else that I got that 2300.

@katievd97 You will live your life because that score is amazing. 20 points won’t matter in the end, it will be how you utilized your time in high school. So go work on your essays and strengthen your extracurriculars because you are set in your test scores.

I have another question, how are you guys making your last summer count? (Besides perhaps restudying for SAT, college apps, college visits, etc), I mean like Extracurricular wise or like something that is going to make your summer seem like you didn’t waste it to colleges?

Last summer meaning last summer in high school of course, and that too I’m assuming you’re all incoming seniors #CLASSOF2015

I’m working for SAT Subject Tests, work so I can pay for my college apps, and working on my college essays. I’m also building plans for my extracurriculars next year, like I’m president for a few clubs so I’m drawing up the plans to do for next year.

I got an 1880 without studying soo do you guys think if I study I can get a 2000?

Definitely. My PSAT was the exact same score and with studying my first SAT score was a 2170.

@fcallicotte‌ wow thanks that makes me feel better and i definitely will!

And I didn’t get a tutor either for the SATs. Tutors teach the same material as a prep book does- they just force you to sit down and learn it. If you’re on this thread that means you’re dedicated & can find the motivation to study yourself (thereby eliminating the need for a tutor)

Hey guys! I was at work all day but I really wanted to contribute to this thread and tell you guys about how I raised my score so it can (possibly!) help all of you retaking it. First of all – the SAT is completely mental. You have to be able to stay awake and be 100% as focused as you were the minute you stepped in (especially towards the end of it). That’s what you are training for. I never had a tutor, and only used real practice tests and that’s how I got my 2220. Continuous practice, getting used to the types of questions, etc. You will see a LOT of repeats in types of questions on the SAT.

Now, my 2220 was a 790 in writing, a 760 in CR, and a 670 in math. To increase math, I used PWN the SAT (Math) and I can honestly tell you it completely changed the way I look at SAT Math (I got an 800 this time round). I literally heard this guy’s voice in my head as I was doing the math questions; he goes through every strategy and it saved me so much when I was taking the test.

I know I didn’t get a 2400 but if anyone has any questions or something I would be able to help with, I would gladly do that! I was in a position like you guys just a few months ago!

I thought I’d get the highest in math but got the lowest :(( 590, im sure its because I forgot the basic math thats on the sat since im in ap calc
