***June 2014 SAT (US ONLY)***

I really wanted to buy pwnthesat’s books but alas I am poor

@presque I used PWN the SAT Math too! I definitely felt like it helped raise my scores (Although my math practice tests were higher than my actual; Guess I work better under less stress) Mike McClanathan (Author) was really insightful and teachers the basic prototypes of questions so you know what to look for. That being said he also points out that not every SAT math is formulaic, and some you just have to have the intuition to solve. (Don’t worry, there aren’t many of these.) My score went up to a 640 (Not amazing, but hey, I’ll take it) If you’re looking at books, I recommend that or the new sat math game plan. Further more, get Direct Hits 1 & 2 and use the words daily! DH was helpful not just for my score, but for life in general. ( I know, I sound like an infomercial ) but its true! I hear the words all the time now that I know them! I used them so much my family got annoyed and started making fun of me for using them lol. Now to wait on those AP scores!!!

@presque Do you have any tips for writing? I always score 10+ on the essay, but i can never get a good MC score  Btw, i also got a 2220 ^_^

@scarlettlovesivy‌ I was reading through some of your posts and I know exactly how you’re feeling. I spent a bunch of time studying (probably too much) to get my score to that range so I could at least be in the target range for an Ivy. After this test, I have some ambivalence because I didn’t start out as high as you did. (First SAT 1790, Second 2020) I definitely improved, but still didn’t hit my target score. (2250+) I was motivated by my low score too and I can tell you that it was really the game changer! Every day I think I was reminded of how low I did and forced myself to study somehow. I kind of let go of the Ivys (though I was obsessed with Princeton for the longest time, even bought a shirt, kid you not) for a University closer to my home. I Believe in you and wish you well on your next SAT! I think im done with it lol.

BTW which Ivy are you looking at?

@fenderfan54 Wow that’s a great improvement! Congrats, I know it’s not what you’re looking for, but it’s a great great improvement. Yes, I’m gonna use my low score as something that pushes me to strive harder. It’s gonna take a lot to put this and all the work I did for i behind me but I am left with no choice really. Haha, I dream and live for Ivy’s (If you couldn’t tell by my username  ) But, I’m perfectly okay with doing undergrad in a University near my home and then trying for Ivy for Grad. Thank you so much, people like you have really made me feel better today and I appreciate it a lot  I’m looking at Cornell, UPenn, Princeton, and although it’s not an ivy, MIT!

Congrats to all of those who did well this time around! If not, there’s always October, so don’t feel discouraged! Anyways, I went up from a 2070 in January 2014 (620 cr 720 m 730 w) to a 2380 this time around! (780 on cr)! If I can do it, so can you

@JamalAmmar WOW, CONGRATS! How did you do it?

Lol thanks a lot! I honestly just practiced a lot of critical reading passages from the blue book and changed my approach (answering as I read instead of reading all of it then answering the questions). Also, I’ve always been a math person, so I suppose that helped. In my case though, it was honestly mostly luck.

Hey everyone,

Great to see that many people here did as well or better than they wanted to! I myself did not. My goal was to get a score of 2100+, but I only ended up with a 600 CR, 720 M, and 640 W 9 Essay. I am disappointed, but it was my first time taking the SAT and I know that I can do better. Does anyone here know if I can post a word document to a comment? I have created a word document with access to over 20 free online sat’s along with data tables to keep track of progress. I also created a separate data table to break down the Critical Reading, as that is my weak point. I would love to share this with everyone if it is possible.

I know I can do better on the October SAT. I seriously froze up this time and I felt out of it. Now that I have the jitters out, and after practicing the essay, I know I can get a 2350+.

I also made the mistake of doing an entire practice test the day before. I felt nervous and slept 4 hours that night

Such is life. Hope everybody does well #OctoberSquad woooooooo!

@spiritkoi‌ hey! writing is EXTREMELY intuitive; in my case i only used the sparknotes online sat writing help to review the different types of errors. the collegeboard REPETITIVELY uses these, so if you are able to identify them and see them in the sentences, writing will become quite easy for you. i would also recommend that you read the sentences aloud in your brain; if they sound right, they’re probably right. if they don’t, and something sounds a little weird, there’s probably something wrong! remember there’s usually 3 NE in the big 35 question section, and if you get like 5 then something’s probably up. hope i helped a little!

Hey guys I took the SAT and got 2290. My parents want me to retake it but I really don’t want to… Advice?

Hey guys!! So… I got a 2330 (R:740, M790 W 800). I know I should be happy, but I can’t stop worrying about the reading score, which is definitely weaker than the other two. Also, a perfect writing score is probably not as prestigious as a perfect math or cr score. I am sure that I won’t retake it, but I just wanted your opinion of the inconsistency in my scores. Thank you!!

@Ivyaspirant27‌ i really wouldn’t worry about it! some people here will freak you out, but there’s a pretty generally agreed upon philosophy that once you cross the 2300 threshold the scores are all weighted similarly.

Thank you @presque‌ , that really gave the confidence I needed!

I sort of want to take the SAT one more time because now that I’ve gotten a 220 improvement I feel like I can rise more… It all depends on my ACT I guess

Does anyone know if around a 50 point drop from my first time is really going to hurt me?

My thoughts are running wild again :frowning:

@Jellybae‌ I’ll keep taking it until I get that 1900! I don’t like the ACT’s format personally. wanna see my score report to see why I got such horrendous scores.

Listen, @sat2014 you are DEF going to get a 2000+ in Oct, you got this! Don’t aim for a 1900, it’s just not that great of a score.
