***JUNE 2015 ACT DISCUSSION THREAD***

@CBeal23 last test the cutoff was -1 for a 36

@cbcontrolsmylife if you had to guess how many did I get wrong for a science score of 29?

@Kinglok12 I agree: I believe that two questions did not have unambiguously correct answers. Maybe the ACT will throw them out?

To those who said they finished the science portion with time remaining, how is that possible? Do you guys choose the choice that seems like the right answer and never look back or do you guess on the ones you don’t know? I’m taking it in september, and i don’t understand how it’s possible to get above a 30 on science.

I thought science was terribly difficult. I would predict scores of 31-34 for the other sections but honestly, when it comes to science, I feel as if I got a 24. I always find ACT science somewhat hard, but this seemed to be in a foreign language. Anyone else feeling this way? Maybe there will be a big curve on science???

I thought the remnants one was escpecially hard

any guesses on the english & science curve

@reDIOS @jamsox Honestly, not to be annoying, but for science you don’t need a brain. You literally just skip the passage (unless it is the actual passage one with the 3 scientists) and go straight to the questions. They ask you about a table, graph, or figure, find that table, graph, figure, put your finger on it, read the question and it will be so obvious. If the question doesn’t direct to a specific table graph or figure, briefly look at the passage or just use your brain. All of their science questions are just common sense.

ACT science isn’t science except for sometimes 1 or 2 questions, its ACT Reading Data.

Can somebody help predict my composite score based on the following information? E: -7-10 M: -4-5 R: -3 S: -2

By the way, I finished the science portion with a good 10 minutes to spare. I felt that the comparison between scientists was easy, and most of the graphs were simple. However, some BASIC science knowledge was needed for around 2-3 of the questions. Overall, I’m hoping I missed 2 or less.

@shemp903 can you give me some tips for science?

Honestly, I recommend skimming the first paragraph of each passage (other than the contrasting viewpoints), and then noting the differences in each experiment. Once you have a general understanding, just be able to read graphs/data. Otherwise, the only real reading I recommend is to read the contrasting viewpoints passage. The contrasting portion always seems to be about stars too  @reDIOS

also, does anyone think the ACT made an error on the remnants one? I don’t think any of the answers were actually right

@jamsox A lot of people are speculating that there is an error for that one since all the answer choices simply don’t make sense. I possibly spent a minute alone on that question which really wasted my time. I don’t even know what they were trying to test on that one.

What was the remnants one about again?

@16jpatel We can’t discuss specifics, but that question should be thrown out by ACT Inc.

So is it possible for the english curve to be 73-75 for a 36?

@MrAustere ok but what section was it on?

@reDIOS I finished science with 5 minutes left and yes. I do each question and put down what I think it is and never look back. There is no point in going and second guessing yourself because science is extremely straight forward and second guessing yourself means you’re overthinking a problem. And yeah I do an educated guess on the ones I don’t know (if you don’t know it right away, you don’t know it. move on). I usually score around 29-31 on Science.

Oh, and go STRAIGHT to the questions. Don’t even glance at the passages.

Score predictions for myself-
English -1 or 0, 36/35
Reading -1 or 0, 36/35
Math- -10 or so, 29/28
Science- -5 to 7, 29/28 hopefully
I think I got a 31. Overall I’m hoping for a 32…but a 33 would be a dream come true!!!
In terms of difficulty, I definitely thought the last 10 or so math problems were hard and took up a lot of time.
In reading, the cars passage was a little difficult.
The remnants question was yikes…
But other than that it wasn’t harder than April. Feb was the easiest IMO. I can’t remember the december test for the life of me…
My current highest scores are 35E, 33R, 27M, 26S. 30C.
Either way, this was my fourth and last time taking it!!!
